Ok ladies and gentlemen,
I know there have been countless questions asked about these two phones,
but I have a couple more. The decision between which one i purchase next is
looming with the imminent death of my T610. So...
I know they are practically the same phone. I like the W800 features, but
not the colours - i think the other phone looks much smarter (esp around
work). so, dos anyone know if the cases can be swapped, and if so, approx
how much does it cost?
Also, I have heard the K750 s'ware can be upgraded to that of the w800. Has
anyone managed to do this yet? I like the flight mode option.
Thirdly, does anyone know if the sound quality (mp3/radio) of these two is
comparable, or is the W800 better?
Thanks in advance,
- Ed.

Don't know but you can guarantee that the means to do it will be on ebay
very soon if not right now.

Yes. It's a warranty busting third party operation though. You have to
want it real bad.

AFAIK they are exactly the same. Apart from the case, the memory card
and the firmware they are the same phone are they not?

Same phone different case. So much so that you can update a 750i to use the
W800i firmware. I personally haven't done it but some people in the group
certainly have. Other than that the headphones are better and a bigger
memmory card is supplied with the stock w800i - that's really ony the real
difference between the two models.

Re: W800i vs K750i - AGAIN, I KNOW!!!
I bought the K750i. One of the guys in our office bought the W800i and we
spent about 20 minutes comparing the features. The only noticable difference
is as you say, the ability to switch the mobile off whilst still having the
MP3 player powered on. I personally won't be upgrading the firmware for this
feature as it voids the warranty.
An excellent point though is the vast array of software and games you can
get for these phones. Some of the freeware games are very professional
looking and the apps I've chosen to down so far are superb. I've downloaded
the SDK from SE and am now looking to write my own stuff.
Goto www.getjar.com for more info.
My advice, go with what your pocket tells you.

I have a W800i and a friend has the 750i. There are some differences.
The MP3 player is better, even Sony's own description of the W800i notes
an "improvement" on the MP3 side of things.
Aside from that the maximum memory on the W800i goes to a potential 4
gig, I have *heard* on newsgroups that the 750 is limited to 128mB. I
don't know whether this is factual or not. My friend's 750 will not
recognise my 500mB card. It may just require reformatting for his phone,
something that I am not prepared to do.
I also don't like the colours, but I don't see how the 750 case can be
used as the camera is totally different on the two phones. In some of
the Sony ads they show both a silver and a black W800i but none of the
dealers seem to be aware of them.
Regards
David

Put a 512mb card in my K750i and it worked just fine. Required me to do
nothing.
Hardware wise it is exactly the same phone, with the exception of the
earphones.

www.sonyericsson.com is always a good starting point and there is a compare
function.
The W800i is more focused on the MP3 side of things obviously, yeah. Perhaps
the most obvious difference is the "Walkman" menu on the W800 which replaces
the K750's "Media Player" menu. The W800i allows you to list songs by artist
name and also has a "now playing" option. The default functions of some of
the buttons and softkeys differs between the two.
Apart from the physical differences, the memory card and headphones supplied
with the phone will probably differ between the two as previously mentioned
(check with your retailer when buying, obviously)

Dunno where you heard that, but it is definitely wrong. I have swapped 500MB
cards between a K750 and a W800 with no problems and they both accept Duo
and Duo Pro memory cards (up to 2GB)

The cameras in the two phones are quite similar (2MPixel). As far as
swapping cases, firmware etc., the best bet would be for the OP to buy the
phone that best best suits his requirements and budget....

There is also a "try the phone" option where you can see the differences in
menus, button functions etc. Give it a try
