Recently when I was talking on the phone the connection suddenly died,
and the phone stopped responding. I was unable to even switch it off
using the No button, had to pull out the battery and replace it. When
the phone came on, my background images were all gone, all ring tones
(downloaded and pre-stored) were all erased and strangely enough, the
icons on the screen (bluetooth, sms, phone lock, etc.) are now across
the top instead of the sides where they used to be. Otherwise the
phone seems to be working normally. My address book and customizations
were not erased.
Anybody have any idea what happened?

Re: Peculiar Problem with T68i
Sounds like you had, what we like to call, a "Software Glitch". LOL Do you
know what version of firmware you are running in the phone? I have R7A013
and have occasionally had some odd experiences with the phone like it going
dead and having to repeatedly hit the NO button to get it operational. I
also had it die once where I pulled the battery like you did. Not sure I
NEEDED to do that but it did work in getting the phone restarted. I like
this phone but it still has some little quirks.
Cheers

Re: Peculiar Problem with T68i
My software version is R6A012. Have had problems before, but what
freaked me out this time is the way the icons have changed in position
since the restart

Re: Peculiar Problem with T68i
Did it stay that way permanently? You may want to think about sending it off
to SE for a firmware upgrade and a "health" check.
Cheers

Re: Peculiar Problem with T68i
Yes, it's stuck in the 'changed' mode. Strangely enough there's no
problem making calls, etc.

Re: Peculiar Problem with T68i
Sounds peculiar. You can always call Sony Ericsson Customer Service and see
if they have any answers. They were pretty helpful when I called.
