    but can't you save your contacts to your sim, but you will lose pics and
    melodies as well as other things stored on your phone.

    hi Sue
    if you choose settings, master reset
    then you get 2 options
    reset settings, which will reset the environment and keep the calendar and
    contacts and mails and sms and pics and sounds
    or
    reset all
    which even reset the provider settings and all pics
    so you may choose
    but..........
    before you do anything make a backup of your phone with fma
    (http://sourceforge.net/projects/fma) and opie your sounds and pics to the
    SE-map on your pc

    Only if you do a Master Reset and choose 'Reset All'.
    if you choose settings, that's all that's reset.
    Master reset will get rid of all ringtones and pics too, except a few
    which are part of the original programming or additions (from
    vodafone, t-mobile, orange, etc.)
