There are are plenty of minor idiosyncracies on this phone and some of
them I can live with but I really am getting fed up.
Perhaps it's my fault for buyng one on T-Mobile, but this combination is
    driving me crackers.
Ascending rings when the feature is disabled coupled with T-Mobile's
'maximum 25sec before unanswered calls go to voicemail' means that I
miss almost _every_ bloody call. Unless, that is, I turn voicemail off
altogether and miss calls when I'm out of range.
Then, of course, if I'm outside I can't see the screen to see who
    phoned.
I don't care if some people say their display is OK or useable, it's
****ing awful when you think the sodding thing is made for outside use!

I spoke to T-Mobile and Sony last week about these 'features' and the
way they make the phone a £200 stress-inducer. Today I phoned them again
to actually register complaints. I also phoned CPW to tell them about
the problem of owning a T610 on T-Mobile.

My son has asked me if I want to swap it for his 7210 and I'm tempted
even though it's actually my old phone and it pissed me off just as much
    itself.

And there was no way to inform yourself BEFORE you bought the phone? Get
    real!

25 seconds is plenty of time if you keep your phone near you. It usually
takes me no longer than five seconds to get the phone off my belt case and
push the right key. Maybe a bit of physical exercise will do you good. ;-)

It's probably not the phone, there's something wrong with your eyes!
You should see an oculist immediately. Hurry up! 8-)

What's the point of using offensive language? It will just earn you the
title of a troll, which - no disrespect for the genuine Norwegian Mountain
Trolls intended - you have deserved more than anyone else who has recently
    posted to this group. :->

But it's your problem, not theirs. The phone isn't faulty. It's you who
failed to collect sufficient information on its idiosyncracies, and now
you're blaming the phone for your own carelessness. I suppose neither CPW
nor T-Mobile put a gun against your head so as to force you to buy one off
    them, did they?

Well, then it's probably best if you don't have a phone at all.
Bugger off and be somebody else's pain in the backside. You insult

What amazing logic, so you never have cause to complain about anything you
buy because you always know whether there will be any faults before you buy
    it?

But it does. With ascend off it takes far less time to reach full
    loudness.

Because the phone uses the speaker to create the ringing sound
SE decided it might result in law suits if they blasted maximum ring
volume out just as someone was putting the phone to their ear. The
compromise was to make the ring quiet for a few seconds to give them time
    to pull it away.

I'm am well aware of the reason - as you say, this measure is necessary to
make up for the design flaw of using the same speaker for both

I bought a V200 on the CPW website and returned it to a shop after 2
days because it doesn't do what Samsung say it does. The swap was on
condition I couldn't exchange again as in a shop you can 'try before you
buy', even though the outlet didn't have a T610 to try out.
When I asked her about the complaints about it on the internet, the
young lady that served me told me she hadn't experienced the poor screen
    with the ones she'd tried.
No mention was made of the fade-in ringer on the T610, nor the 25sec
upper limit on unanswered calls gong to viocemail. Indeed, the T-Mobile
people I've spoken to are surprised (as is everyone that owns a T610
when they find out) that you can't make it ring full volume from the
beginning. Similarly, SE staff are amazed that you can't turn off
unanswered-to-voicemail function on its own with T-Mobile.
How the hell is anyone supposed to find out about these features
    beforehand?

    > > Ascending rings when the feature is disabled coupled with T-Mobile's

When you're driving, when the phone is in another room or even when it's
in your jacket pocket, 25 seconds is rarely enough time to answer.
Perhaps also, people such as yourself that are unoccupied to the extent
that they can answer their phone immediately whenever it rings should
seek some sort of active employment.

Now you're just getting silly. A troll? Me? Surely if I was trolling for
reaction I would post inflammatory comments about the phone which were
completely untrue, rather than complain about features that are
    ridiculously daft when implemented.
When my phone rings a dozen times in a day and I have to phone each
caller because they haven't left a message on my voicemail as they think
I've hit the reject button, it really (brace yourself...) pisses me off.

WTF are you on about guns to heads for?
    I failed to what?
Your comments deserve a lengthy reply but I have no inclination to do
such a thing. I'm afraid you'll just have to accept this...
Don't be so ****ing daft; I'm not complaining that the phone is faulty,
because it does everything it is supposed to do. The trouble is that
some of the implemented features of the phone and T-Mobile's voicemail
    are just plain daft.

You should be able to extend that to the GSM-spec maximum delay of 30
seconds using the GSM codes. Details from:

    http://www.mobileshop.org/usertech/gsmcodes.htm

It worked for me on O2 - it should work on T-Mobile.

Heh, on O2 you can turn the unanswered feature off and leave busy &
unreachable features on; SE staff tested a T610 on O2 to make sure it
wasn't a problem with the model, while I was talking with them.
I've turned voicemail off altogether now; I'll be getting my next phone
on O2 (same as Mrs Chewie) purelly because of this... and because Voda
gives a piss poor reception around these parts.

I'm not sure phoning a shop to complain in such general terms actually
makes any difference to anything except your phone bill. Does it
contravene the 1979 Sale Of Goods Act or not? If it does, you can get
    your money back. Otherwise...

    > My son has asked me if I want to swap it for his 7210 and I'm tempted
    > even though it's actually my old phone and it pissed me off just as much

So which phones DO you like? Did you research your purchase/upgrade
before you got it? I've done a fair bit of research and decided on a
T610 and nothing i've read - your post included - has done anything to
dissuade me that it's the best phone in it's price range at the
moment. The only other phone which i'd consider is the P800 but
that'd cost me £200, and I can't justify that sort of money on a phone
so it's the T610 for me.

I'm also getting mine on TMobile and it does sound a bit odd if
they've customized it in a way which restricts some of the
functionality SE put into the phone, but if you're that bothered then
get the phone reflashed with the original software. I know you
shouldn't have to but life's like that.

T-Mobile don't customise the software at all and will even usually supply it

I didn't phone the shop, I spoke to CS.
No, neither the phone or the contract contravene the sale of goods act.
I'm not implying that either does; I'm bemoaning that the two together
are, for me, almost incompatible due to the implementation of the
respective features. The intentional design of the ringing & available
settings of T-M's voicemail feature are not mentioned in literature
    available before purchase.

I found out what I could and the T610 came second to my first choice and
I thought I had a great phone in the V200 but although it's got killer
looks there are quite a few claimed features that aren't on it - and the
500 memory slots suddenly filled up with about 80 entries! The IR didn't
work between it and either my old 7210 or my PC, either.
Sure, the T610 is ugly and the supplied software doesn't work with many
PC IRDA devices (and won't uninstall, either) but I don't want a phone
to look at, I want one to talk and text on. Incidentally, texting on the
T610 is the best I've used. Tha screen is awful in daylight but I've
been putting up with looking ridiculous trying to see what's on it while
    out of doors.

They haven't customised it (it's unlocked as Alan B suggested they are,
too); it's their voicemail setup that's daft.

Not fit for the purpose intended (if the purpose intended is `use
outdoors`). Also, it's possible that, because you can't play with the
phone before you buy them then it's `sold by description` (another
part of the Sale Of Goods Act), and that what you got differed
substantially from the description (the description being a T610, not
    a `T610 arsed up by TMobile`).

It IS pretty hard to see in sunlight. I don't think it's ugly - sort
of retro maybe, but it least it doesn't have that `like all the
others` look that Siemens and Nokia phones all do.

I'm on Tmobile and i've not noticed anything daft about it. But I only
got mine yesterday. The IR stuff is a bit weird - i just managed to
send my contacts and a couple of pics to my pc, but now it's refusing
to do anything! Bluetooth worked fine (except my Belkin software
decided to remove my existing modem entries from my home PCs
properties and insists i connect via bluetooth modem support!
    Tedious).

I can't remove some of the TMobile pictures and sounds, but they
aren't taking up TOO much space so i'll left them there (rather than
    getting it flashed).
