    Hi all,
I went to a local exhibition yesterday (in mauritius) - with the new ICT
/ consumer electronics gear to the island on display. Apparently the
importers can't get Z600 to the public til January. One of the staff on the
stand had a personal one (assuming it was a company phone or grey import),
he let me play with it. I couldn't believe the size! For the minor
improvements over T610, its a fair bit bulkier. Next to my Samsung S300 -
the z600 looked dated even though it hasn't been launched here yet...

On another stand they had the complete new Motorola GSM range - including
the MPx200. Considering the huge memory, fast processor etc the thing still
seems smaller than the z600 (no cam or BT tho). This made me interested in
the new MS-based phones: in particular I notice the Qtek 8080 on
expansys.com seems to have almost every feature going for a similar price to
    the Z600.

Oh, I found a nice quote the other day, can' t say where:

Where will Microsoft try to drag you today?
Do you really want to go there?

Nice, isn't it? Buy whatever you think fits your needs.

Well they've got a shot at making a corking OS for smartphones, what with
all the knowhow they nicked from Sendo ;-)

Strange. Just looked at the S300 spec - somewhat more dated than an old t39
    let alone a Z600!!!

As for size - it depends how you are going to use it. The T610 is small -
but its screen is so sensitive to dust/scratches that realistically it will
be kept in a leather case (or as my wife does) in a spectacle case. These
'bulk it up' quite considerably. Whereas the Z600 (like the T39) can be
'pocketed' quite comfortably with loose change, bunch of keys etc without
    covers.

That is why some of us prefer the flip/clam form factor. I agree the candy
bar for factor is better when making calls - but if you are low usage the
benefit of not having to case or care flip/clams is worth it.

    All IMHO, YMMV etc

I had a T39 when it was brand spanking new a coupla years back, I don't
remember 65k screen (plus a 256-colour screen-cum-mirror on the outside for
good measure) java, 40note polyphony (by a Yamaha soundchip, no less)...

I DO remember its firmware deciding it'd be a good idea to burn out the RF
components, however. I'll never forget the day I found myself strolling to
the Ericsson service centre off White Hart Lane in my Arsenal top on match
    day ;-)

I think Samsung have mastered the clamshell. While I like Sony Ericsson (in
    my time i've had a T18s, T39m, T68i from one side of the family, and a Z5
from the other), 'candybar' is what they do best. Roll on T630 - that seems
to be the best of the Z600 features and the svelte T610 form, improved in
    fact IMO.
