Data Connectivity Problem with V60t (AT&T)....anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

I have a Toshiba Laptop running Windows XP Pro SP-1. I have a
Motorola V60(t) phone, and the Data Connectivity Software with
Truesync software and a USB data cable. I've installed everything as
instructed. I show a Motorola USB modem in the hardware list. If I
Query the modem, it responds. Truesync works fine.

So here's the problem. I cannot get the phone to dial my ISP. I set
up a dial up connection, connect the phone (yes the power is on).
When I try to connect, I get the following error (within 3 seconds of
hitting Connect:

Error 678: Error opening port.

The system apparently can't get the phone to dial out. I've tried
everything I know. Hopefully someone out there can give me a hint or
clue as to where to look to get this thing working. I'm heading on a
trip next week, and I really need to get the cell phone working with
the laptop for internet access on the road.

Don't dial your ISP - setup the dial string with:
*99#
This will connect you through AT&T GPRS service.

Thanks for the attempt, but I got the exact same error. I'm not even
sure the V60(t) is compatible with GPRS service. However, it didn't
matter anyway, since nothing go dialed. I got the exact same error.
This is incredibly frustrating. The computer detects the modem as
soon as I plug the cable into the USB port. The driver checks out,
the modem reponds to a diagnostic query, True-sync synchronizes....so
I know the connection is good between the computer and the phone is
solid. It just won't dial.

I've tried opening the phone, leaving it closed. I've tried dialing
teh number and hitting send at the same time I select connect. The
phone dials, but the computer never shows it trying to make a
connection.


Anyone else have a clue?

I came across the very same problem, and I couldn´t get to fix it.

Then a friend of mine told me to throw away TrueSync ("obsolete software"
were his words) and instead I installed Motorola's "Mobile phone Tools"
program. Using my cell phone through GPRS (and all the other options, like
editing my agenda, my contact list, my multimedia tasks...) became in a
split second a piece of cake !

You can't do what your trying to do. AT&T WS does not support data services
on their TDMA network.

Your phone doesn't speak GSM, It only speaks TDMA.

Which still means you will not be able to do data over your handset. To do
data on AT&T WS, you will need to upgrade to a gsm handset. And even still
you will have to access the internet only through Death Star Wirelesss, er,
AT&T's per byte, walled garden.

And, I'm not trying...LOL This question was posted by someone else, I just
commented on it.
I am quite happy with my V60 Color....just got it about a month ago-AT&T
WS tried talking me into getting a GSM phone, but I like what I got...pushy
mo' fo's, aren't they? LOL I have plenty of internet access via my new
computer-I don't need it with my cell phone.
