Is there a way to disable the volume buttons when flip is closed? When I
reach in my pocket I often inadvertently press it making loud beep.

If it's the same as the V500, the beep is suppressed when on
    silent or vibrate modes.

Well then the v60s is different from the v500, since my v60s is
set up to _never_ beep (to the best of my ability). The only
two ringer states I use are "silent" and "vibrate". With the
flip open, the up-down button will go between "silent" and
"vibrate" noiselessly (with a little vibrate when going into
    "vibrate").

But with the flip closed, pushing either the up or down button
on the v60s will emit a beep (in addition to doing the needed
function). Perhaps this would change if one adjusted the key
tone that would change, but on the v60s that exposes one to the
    dreaded "missed call" defect.

Closing the v60s flip _does_ disable the speakerphone, voice
and multifunction buttons, assuming no accessories are plugged
    in.
