I need to find out if the camera is crap in all V500s or just mine.

In daylight, even in bright conditions, focus seems poor and there's
little or no depth of field (I know the focus is fixed, but in bright
light you should see everything in focus from 10m or less to infinity).
One tiny highlight seems to make everything else grossly underexposed.
Adjusting with left or right arrows seems to produce milky, contrastless
pix. A friend's SE T610, even though lower res, produces way better
    images with vibrant colours.

Indoors under artificial light there seems to be a central circle
occupying about 25% of the image which has a very marked yellow/orange cast.

What do others think of V500 pictures?

Well...I have (also 4 other members of my family) a V525 ..Which I believe
to be the same..except for Vodafone Software....We all agree that the
picture quality is excellent compared to some other camera phones...very
good and clear images.......you can change the resolution on the phones also
and Zoom in or out as well.......I am extremely happy with my phone !!.....

My v525 certainly performs better than some of my mates phones. I don't
suffer with the "please keep very still, or it will blur" problems that they
    have.

If you look at any of the following, they were taken on my v525 ina rather
poorly lit recording studio and later transferred to my PC.

At the end of the day the V500 is a telephone and the quality of photo,s
should not matter. If you want quality get a 5mega pixel camera or larger.

Considering the very poor lighting conditions, yes I am happy with them. In
most cases the pictures stay on the phone ... and at such a small image
size, they look a lot better. That room has two 40w bulbs, both facing the
wall. The large flurescent strips we're off at the time.
