I have set up a banner message in the Preferences menu.
My problem is that the banner appears sporadically, then disappears
and the phone says "Verizon Wireless" where the banner should be.
"Verizon Wireless" appears much more often than my banner, which
appears erratically at times which appear to have no pattern.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong, how I can correct it or
whether it's a "defect" of the phone?
Thanks.

Same happening here, perhaps a software upgrade will offer a fix.
Also, while trying to dial from Palm Tungsten T via bluetooth, the 710
assumes only data calls (not voice.)
I entered init string with +CDV
(CDMA VOICE) and can dial voice (non "data") from the Palm
but get unwanted prefix (1) on the
dialed number. Maybe a proper driver will be released soon.

It is a "feature" :-).
This is exactly like the (now discontinued) T720/T730. "Verizon Wireless"
is the enhanced roaming indicator, saying that you are on a Verizon
system. It would say "Extended Network" if on a non-Verizon network which
is part of America Choice. I haven't been able to figure out the pattern
either. I think that it has something to do with showing the roaming
indicator for a period of time after the phone registers with the network.

Re: motorola v710 and banner problem
Yes, one of the better Motorola "features". :-)
Oh well, at least I'm not alone. let's hope they do come up with a software
fix.
I dialed *228 and chose Option 2, but that didn't correct it either.
