Hi All: I recently got a V220 and service from Cingular. This phone
is for my 14 year old.. I didn't do much research about phones. Is
this phone any good as a starter phone? I have heard mixed reviews.
My kid has a really good digital camera and I didn't see the need for
a fancy camera phone. I want the phone to last for at least two years.

Motorola makes some decent phones, and the 220 is one of them. I have
some of their older ones that still work as well as the day they came
out of the box. The question is will your kid be satisfied with the
220 in a year, when the latest whoopee-doo feature starts appearing?

And, as far as it being a good starter phone, I think it's a bit much
of a phone for a first phone but, then, I still remember holding the
earpiece of a pay phone to my ear and talking into the part that stuck
out of the box. (And information was free and other calls were a
    nickel.)
