Hello,
I just got the Motorola v3, and I have some dumb questions about
starting to use it. First, was it supposed to come with a mini-USB
cable? Mine did not, and I'm curious about where I could buy one.
Second, is there some secret stash of ringtones hiding somewhere? I
found a few under 'sounds'... perhaps when I get hooked up to a
computer, I will be able to upload some new ones?
Other than that, I've been thrilled with it, though.
Thanks,
Ben

Re: Dumb Razr v3 Questions
The only cable that comes with your $500.00 phone is the charging cable
which is a mini USB. It should have also have a mini USB right angle
adapter.
I think some additional ringtones appear when you try to assign ringtones to
address book entries.

Re: Dumb Razr v3 Questions
If you bought it from Cingular it's pretty stripped down. It comes with
very few ringtones and no cable. Cingular wants you to buy ringtones and
cables. The cable is a standard 5 pin mini USB. I used the ones that
came with my camera and MP3 player but you can buy one for a few bucks
locally or on ebay. Ringtones are available either through over the air
download or you can create an MP3 file and load it from your PC via the
cable or Bluetooth. You'll also need the Mobile Phone Tools software
which you can buy or find a free d/l on the net.

Re: Dumb Razr v3 Questions
I have both the charging cable and the right angle adapter. Now, when
you say that the charging cable is a mini USB... does that imply that I
can somehow use it to interface with my computer? By looking at it, my
guess is that I still need to buy a seperate cable to do that.
Thanks again,
Ben

Re: Dumb Razr v3 Questions
Yes, you need another cable with a regular USB on the other end to plug
into your PC. You can also use Bluetooth.

Or you can get a Mac and use iSync (comes with OS, free and works great with
a LOT of phones, not just Motorola)

Re: Dumb Razr v3 Questions
Is the Mobile Phone Tools software a Motorola product? You mentioned it's
available as a free download. Can you tell us where we can get it? How much
is it to buy otherwise?
I'd rather create my own ring tones and upload them as MP3 files.
Thanks,
Charlie

Re: Dumb Razr v3 Questions
MPT is sold by Motorola and is a BVRP product. You can order it for as
low as $13 from www.shopoem.com or even less on ebay. Although the
software isn't freeware there are bootleg copies posted in various
places including any 30 day history of this group.

Re: Dumb Razr v3 Questions
Hey, anybody know what this Motorola logo tag that came in the V3 box is
for? It's got a black elastic type of mini lanyard on t. Is it just trinket
for a key ring or something?
Just curious?

Re: Dumb Razr v3 Questions
Thaanks. That makes sense. I asked the guy at the Cingular store and a
person on tech support at Cingular (no, I didn't call about THAT) and
neither of them knew. How did you know that? I looked through the manual and
didn't see it.
Regarding the manual, it's not very thorough is it? It mentions a lot but
doesn't explain the details of anything.
Thanks,
Charlie

Re: Dumb Razr v3 Questions
Download the v600 manual from the moto site. It goes into a lot more
detail and the phones are virtually identical in operation. The little
cleaning pad came with a tiny instruction tag in the box I got.
