I just got the v551 and fully charged it overnight on Friday. Used it
Saturday to adjust the settings and address book and made a 30 min phone
call. Sunday morning I wake up and the phone is shut off because of no
batter life! One day of battery life? Is this an issue with the phone or a
bad battery?

Re: v551 battery life
I think it is an issue with the phone. Mine worked good on the "from the factory" charge, but after
that the battery life is terrible. Nice phone, but a pain in the ass wrt the battery. I hope
Motorola comes up with a fix soon or at least a free or cost discounted battery offer. Are you
listening Motorola..... HelloMoto!!!!

Re: v551 battery life
As others have pointed out, our phones run 3 to 4 days between
charges. You may have a problem with your battery. Are you really
letting it fully charge? It takes mine about 4 hours, unlike our
Nokia which charges fully in about 2 hours. Go into Tools/Phone
Status/Battery Meter and look at the battery charge on the larger
meter. If you leave BlueTooth on all the time, it can drag your
battery down. This IS considered to be a problem.

Re: v551 battery life
Bluetooth power is off. Never turn it on. Just checked in the menu. Yes I am
letting it fully charge and yes this is how I get the actual power reading
by going to the menu and observing the level that way.

Most batteries need 3-4 full charge / discharge cycles to obtain full
battery life.

Re: v551 battery life - mine died in only 36 hrs
I bought my phone Thursday night. It was partially charged plus I charged
it when I got home. It lasted until monday a.m. when it went to "low
battery." I charged it for about 2 hours before I had to go to work. Then
Monday night I charged it til it said "charge complete." This was about
Midnight monday night. I used the alarm feature both Tuesday and Wednesday
a.m. and talked on it for a total of 45 minutes. That's it. By 11a.m.
today it was back to "low battery" and dying. So it lasted a total of 36
hours. Not acceptable. (And Bluetooth was off.)
Is it the battery or the phone? Since it ran completely out, I am
completely recharging it tonight and will see how it does. But if it runs
out that quick again I will be visiting the store to either change batteries
or exchange the phone...

I found that my battery seemed to hold a charge much better after
several full kill and re-charge cycles as the manual suggests. It seems
that others have had success with new batteries, so that would be
something to try if full cycling of it a few times doesn't fix it.

I have the same problem and I believe I have figured it out my phone
issue. The screen mysteriously turns on, when the phone is closed and
stays on, and ofcourse draining the battery overnight. In a darken
environment, I can see the screen on, with the phone closed, but it is
random and exhibits this problem about 70% of the time. I called my
cell dealer and they said it could be something with the software in
the phone.
