Motorola V60t, can't change "My Number"

Motorola built the v60t as a TDMA phone and the v60c as a CDMA phone
then about a year later released an improved version named v60i (i for
improved?). I know as I owned both the 't' then the 'i' as an ATT TDMA
customer. Both the TDMA and CDMA versions were called v60i. Just to
keep things interesting, they then released a GSM version too! Hope this
clears up some confusion.

I would presume i fo iDen (the Nextel transmission setup).

And wasn't that version known as V60g?? Seems their banding nomenclature
tells the whole story. Is the V60g compatible with todays systems? (as
it was about 3 or 4 years ago it was introduced.

I don't think so as the 'i' was offered in both TDMA and CDMA flavors. I
don't believe it was offered as an iDEN phone since it doesn't have the
walkie-talkie function.

There were CDMA, TDMA *and* GSM versions of the i, if I recall correctly.

OK, now that you guys have that settled, does anybody know the answer to my
original question:

Friend gave it [TDMA v60i] to me when she got a fancier one. I got it
converted to
my existing callplus setup, including changing the NAM1 MIN
(#27blablabla), which now reflects my number. Unfortunately it still
shows her number along with my name when I turn it on. Minor thing, but
annoying. I've googled to no avail. What's the secret?

And an incidental question: My house is in a minimum-bar/no service
area. Is this phone (used only for occasional calls when I'm away from
home) more or less likely to suck in a marginal signal than my old Nokia
5160? The Motorola is smaller and cuter, but cosmetics aren't
everything.

The v60 accepts an external antenna. (little rubber plug just below the
antenna on the back.) For use in the house, the tradeoff of good signal
verses loss of mobility might be acceptable.

Not me, there's no TDMA here in Australia.

Does your phone Setup have a Welcome Screen option? This is where
you can personalize the startup screen on many phones. It might be
buried in the Text Messaging submenu.

Have you actually gotten into the programming menu where you can change
the number, home SID, et al? I used to have a C331T, and it wasn't too
difficult to get into that programming and change the number. I was
experimenting, and I programmed my CDMA number in the TDMA phone, and
they both rang when I received a phone call. The TDMA phone was roaming
on Western Wireless Cellular One and the CDMA phone was Western Wireless
Cellular One.

I don't remember how to get into the menu because it's been about 2
years since I got rid of the phone, however I will do some research and
see what I can pull up.

Here's how to get into the programming menu:

- Menu 073887* (do it fast)
- You may have to enter the security code (up to 6 digits)

I don't think there is a time restriction, but if it keeps failing you
may restart the phone, and try to access the menu right after it's on.

Thanks. I got up to the point where it wanted the security code, but
unfortunately I have to ask the previous owner and she's probably forgotten it
:-(

Bingo, thanks! I changed the NAM...MIN from what it was to a new number and
it said fine, no problem, but when I turned the phone on again it immediately
displayed the old number as 'My Number'. Much cryptic stuff in there, what
should I look for?

I'm playing on a spare phone, incidentally. If I foul it up there's less
damage done than if I were doing it to my real phone.

Know how to get rid of the annoying little tune that plays when you turn it on
or off? Pushing the volume buttons doesn't do anything.

Between the programming menu and something that displays a "Welcome
Banner" type thing, I don't know how to change the number. As for the
tune it plays when you start it up and turn it off...I don't think there
is a way to get rid of that other than advanced programming, which you'd
have to get a cable and try at your own risk. On my old phone, I think
setting it to silent made it quiet, but you'd have to do that all the
time just to turn off.
