I live in Western KY and have a problem with the volume on a Motorola V400
phone. I have had my phone replaced twice in six months, three phones in
all. My son also has one with the same problem. I have spoken with several
people (who have the V400) in this area and all have encountered the same
problem. The volume fluctuates up and down to so low you can't hear. I have
contacted Motorola with this problem and they want me to send my phone in
and be without it for 10 - 14 working days. I use the phone for business
and can not be without it.
My curiosity is wondering if anyone else is having this problem? Please let
me know.

Re: V400
Lee,
I had the same problem with my V400, as well as everybody else I know
who has one. I searched the newsgroup and found the following- it works
for the V400 as well-
"I had the same problem last week with my V500 which is about 18 months
old. So I opened up the LCD part and used a hairdryer to blow clean the
mic bits. I didn't see much dirt or dust there actually (1 hair strand
though), but after I put it back together (and switched it on while
holding my breadth) it works fine now-as good as new really. There are
four little screws hidden beneath 4 rubber bungs around the LCD screen
which need to be removed and then you can pry apart the LCD section very
carefully. You will need a torx screwdriver to open the screws by the
way. You must use a thin flat screwdriver to release two catches along
either side of the screen before the section will come apart."
The whole job took me about 10 or 15 minutes.
