V3-External Display

On the V3 (black) can the external display be brightened so i can see if
any1 has txt me or see the time, its very dark as soon as it powers down.

You can press the smart button on the flip to illuminate the external
display for a few seconds.

Can you DISABLE the messages about new messages on the external display?

I have it checking my POP3 account for email every 60 minutes and there is
always new mail. So I can not use the left buttons to change the ringer
style (from silent to vibrate or loud) as it is showing me that there are
new messages instead.
