i have one of these USB data kits from EBAY for my v551 and it does not
    work. MPT says
that you must use an original OEM motorola cable which costs about 35.00
incl shipping. the cable charges the battery ok but does not connect w
computer properly--spent some time w BPRV tech support trying to get
connected, they sent me new software and everything. any ideas??
would like to avoid paying for a oem cable if possible, esp if there is
another problem. I also have trouble using a wired handsfree earbud with
this phone, i can hear but the other person can't hear me. in order to get
this replaced under warranty i need to backup the phone book which is partly
on phone memory and partly on sim card.
also is it possible to interchange sim cards between different phones and
carriers? I've had the v551 since may--heard it took 3 months to unlock
    thanks
    Susan

Yes you should obtain the OEM cable but if you have phon tools you can get
one without phone tools on ebay.
Phone tools can back up your contacts. You can use any phone that is made
to work for your carrier just change sim cards and go.
Any other phone would need to be unlocked. It should not take 3 months to
unlock a phone. It is almost instant and it can be doen without sending in
    your phone.
