V3 unlocked or not unlocked newbie needs help

thanks in advance for any help. i need to move from nextel to cingular
or t mobile. i like the v3. should i buy unlocked and pay at least
twice the cost of phone with 2 year ball and chain or? i have gleened
from watching this group that v3's may not be full featured if they
are cingular branded. that you can ungrade the software but how do you
do that? what is p2ktools and motokit?

Go to www.motomodders.net and to www.howardforums.com and read the
tutorials first. You'll learn a lot there and get links to other good
sites as well. As for the choice between TMo or Cingular, it really
depends on who has better coverage in your specific locations. TMo seems
to be the winner on price and customer service and I've been very happy
with them. I'm coming up on 2 years but have no plans to leave. I'll
either stay month to month or reup if they give me a good spiff.
Locked vs. unlocked is only important if you plan on using other SIMs
when you travel abroad. I do know that TMo will unlock the phone after
90 days upon request.
