Concerned about the potential links between cell phone use and brain
cancer, a Manhattan city councilwoman has compiled the rankings of the
400 most popular cell phones based on the level of radiation they
release into the head and body during use.

Researchers disagree about the relationship between cell phone use and
brain cancer, and many scientific studies find no evidence supporting
the link. Still, critics are concerned about radio waves from the
phones, and in 1996, the federal government established a limit for the
amount of radiation cell phones can emit.

One of the highest-emitting models is the popular Motorola V.120E -
which exposes users to 1.59 watts per kilogram out of the maximum
allowable 1.6 watts, according to Eva Moskowitz (D-Manhattan).

She's an idiot trying to make a name for herself. Since she can't figure
out how to do her job running her city she's decided to go on a cause
charged with emotion and speculation to make a name for herself and take
the focus off the council's lackluster performance. Cellphones are
limited to a maximum output of 600mw and most of the time operate at
only about a quarter of a watt. A microwave oven operates at 500 to 1100
watts so you can see there's really no comparison.

Then a bunch of newspapers printed the false 1.59 w level.

Except that the 1100 watts remain INSIDE the oven, in theory.

    Some data from reviews.cnet.com/4520-6602-5020355.html?tag=lnav

    Cell phone radiation levels
By CNET staff (updated September 1, 2005)
    What it all means
According to the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association
(CTIA), SAR or specific absorption rate is "a way of measuring the
quantity of radiofrequency (RF) energy that is absorbed by the body."
For a phone to pass FCC certification, that phone's maximum SAR level
must be less than 1.6W/kg (watts per kilogram). In Europe, the level is
capped at 2W/kg. The SAR level listed in our chart represents the
maximum SAR level with the phone next to the ear, a level obtained
    through required FCC tests.

It's important to note that in publishing this list are we in no way
implying that cell phone use is or isn't harmful to your health. While
research abounds and some tests have shown that cell phone
radiofrequency (RF) could accelerate cancer in laboratory animals, the
studies have not been replicated. Cell phones can affect internal
pacemakers, but there is not conclusive or demonstrated evidence that
they cause adverse health affects in humans. So in short, the jury is
still out, research is ongoing, and we will continue to monitor its
    results.

    Ten highest-radiation cell phones (U.S.)

    Manufacturer and model SAR level
    (digital)
    1a. Motorola V120c 1.55
    1b. Motorola V265 1.55

    4b. Motorola ST7868 1.53
    4c. Motorola ST7868W 1.53
    7a. Motorola A845 1.51
    7b. Panasonic Allure 1.51
    7c. Treo 650 GSM 1.51
    10. Sony Ericsson P910 1.50
