    Re: V635 Caller ID

Ahahaha go ahead and go with Bell, then you'll be complaining for sure.
What you are complaining about now I find to be extrememly sad, especially
since it is a feature that can be easily added by you.
It's just not something that was added to the flex, why who knows, for the
25 bucks? Could be, but you can call up Rogers and money says they will do
it no charge on their end, I know of this happening for a couple people who
    also wanted this done.
If you do the seem edit - which is very easy to do using p2kman and
seemplayer as you will see, you can have it done with a bit of reading and
learning. You will also be able to do things like enable the Java app
loader, which was also disabled, so you can't add your own java games -
instead having to rely on Rogers to download them. Ya, what a scam.
Different phones, different features as you can see. My V300 had the hide
id enabled, my V635 didn't, until I added it. My S710a also came with it
enabled, but my v635 lets me choose custom mms ringers, where my S710a
    doesn't.

Anyway, I can't believe that you would return your cell, dump Rogers and
run to "Bell" because a feature wasn't enabled in the flex, or because you
were told it would cost you 25 bucks to add this to your account, when if
you really wanted it that bad, you could take advantage of Motorolas ease of
customizing and do it your self in the time you took to read this mini-rant.
Hell if you want, I will send you the seem with it enabled, as I also use a
Rogers V635, and all you have to do is learn how to upload the seem file
using p2kman by checking out here http://www.xlr8.us/hofo/
Anyway, I was off to bed when I read this thread, so I hope my response
    isn't too jumbled
Let me know if you want me to send the file, and I will. Anything to save
you from further horrors by going to Bell!
    Peace

    | To everyone who read, or replied:
    |
    | Thank you very much for your repsonses and interest. I hope that
    individuals
    | from Motorola read this thread as well.
    |
    | From the repsonses, I see it is possible to turn on this feature. Was it
    the
    | operator (re:carrier re:Rogers) that had this feature turned off in the
    | manufacturing of the V635 for them? Most likely! Is it worth my time (and
    | I've already spent about 45 mintues) trying to find the appropriate
    | software, and learn how to alter this setting? Not really. Not when there
    | are other phones out there that do what I want. Is Rogers trying to scam
    | it's customers for that extra $25? Most likely. However, what bothers me
    | most, is the response I received from Motorola itself:
    |
    | "Regarding your concern, unfrortunately it is not possible to block your
    | telephone number to other people's Caller ID on all calls with the
    Motorola
    | V635. If you would like to submit ideas you may have regarding the design
    of
    | our existing or future products, you may contact our New Ideas Group at
    | 1-847-576-5184."
    |
    | It is possible. But for whatever reason, it's been disabled. Why produce a
    | phone with features disabled? Unless you plan on activating them in the
    | future, calling it a new model, and charging more $. Disgusting practices,
    | for Motorola, and/or Rogers!! Bell and Samsung are looking better and
    | better.
    |
    | I like the v635. I was even contemplating paying the $25 to have my number
    | blocked by the carrier. If I had the time or access to the resources
    needed
    | to alter the phone myself, I might of considered keeping the phone. The
    | phone only has 26 minutes on it, and I've only had it for 16 days. I still
    | have time to return it to Rogers for a full credit. Too bad. I still have
    | the P207 from Samsung, and although it lacks vibe/ring mode (at the same
    | time) it's a nice phone....and it does block my caller ID from all
    outgoing
    | calls.

    See More: V635 Caller ID

    Re: V635 Caller ID

Bell isn't an option. They lack service where I am. Call them, and oh yeah,
they'll tell you that this area is 100% covered digitally (1x or
whatever)...but when I challenge, even the guy from the local store to come
down and stand in my driveway, and use his phone...everyone balks!! Telus,
who utilizes the bell equipment here, says the same thing...they've both got
their phones sent back to them. I really liked the 635, but sent it back.
Rogers was adamant on the $25...saying it's a network feature! When I asked
why I could do it with my P207 from Samsung...."no comment, all I know is
that in order to hide caller ID, we have to enable the feature on the
network, and the cost is $25, one time only setup fee".

I finally did find all the software (or at least I think I did) but the
computer would not recognize the phone. MPT would, but none of the P2K
mananger progs I could find would recognize it...I even considered sending
it to someone who says they could do it...for $30!!

I'm now looking for an unlocked 635 with the features enabled.....I did like
    the 512MB t-flash though.
