I really need help cause this is driving me nuts - but most likely
something I've done wrong or don't understand.
I've installed 2 Java apps recently that require wap access. Neither of
them work, and it appears that neither of them are getting internet
access. They hang basically.
The phone is a Razr with flex GSMU3xxTMB01NAOBC, flash 42.08A
Data ready and browser ready and mp3 ready all say 'yes'.
I've signed up for the tzones service and the browser works fine. I get
EMail, news, all of the internet stuff. I can connect directly to a
wap site through the browser. I did the TMobile automatic wap enable
process from their web site.
Is there another step I have to take? Do I have to tell the phone that
java wap apps are approved to run?
One of my java apps does have a support group, and they are actually
trading EMails with me. They keep on telling me that wap isn't set up
and I keep on telling them that, as far as I know, it IS set up.
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this, or how I can debug the problem,
would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks
Martin

Re: Help Razr/Java/TMobile
I've run into the same problem after adding a few apps including an ebay
manager and a fax program. When I activate them The GPRS icon shows
activity but no data appears to be transmitted or received. I too have
the automatic WAP settings and all other functions work fine as long as
they're done through the browser - including get live snapshots from my
webcam.
I'm running Motox's TMo Flex with the 42.08A Flash and I've been through
the the SEEMS to see what could be missing but I'm stumped.
Please share whatever you learn as will I if I find anything.

Re: Help Razr/Java/TMobile
Bruce,
My GPRS icon is not evident. What does that indicate?

TMobile disables the GPRS indicator but it can be turned on with a seems
edit.

Re: Help Razr/Java/TMobile
No luck so far Bruce. And I am running out of steam.
It is GAWD AWFUL working with these help desks. So far I have gone
through 6 of them, all pointing to each other as someone that I should
'talk to first' before speaking to THEM.
No one understands the end-to-end computing.
Meanwhile I have gotten myself into a pickle regardling a flex install.
I tried to install a generic flex off of motox, but it fails at random
places. Some times it fails at 21% complete, some times earlier, some
times as late as 97% into the process.
So the phone is now in a very weird place. It shows 'Cinglar' as the
provider (I am a TMobile customer), the boot process appears to be
Motorola generic, the wallpaper is TMobile, my internet access is
disabled, the only networks it shows are Cingular and ATT, and the
'roaming' triangle is displaying. Etc.
Not good. I am way over my head with this.
Not sure where to go from here. Probably need to get the flex to
complete somehow.
I know you are a TMobile customer, so can you tell me which flex you
are using and where you got it? The motox site looks like it only has
Cingular flexes.
Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Re: Help Razr/Java/TMobile
Martin:
Go back to the Motox site and click "Flexlash" and download the first
file in the list. It begins with "9AR_" and is the TMo flex I used to
convert my phone from Cingular branding to TMo. It also activates Video
Recording. I also am using the 42.08 Reflash that's available from
Motomodders (use the NON-Vodaphone version). You might want to first
upgrade the bootloader to 8.23 using the file on the Motox site. When
you're done you should be stable with everything working properly.
There's a few things I didn't like in the TMo flex but I did SEEMS edits
to correct them. I can send you my SEEMS files if you want to use them.
Note: A 'Flexlash' flex is installed as a Flash file rather than as a
flex file. End result is the same though.
You will lose all your phonebook and Java apps so back them up first.
Let me know how it goes and if I can answer anything else.

Re: Help Razr/Java/TMobile
Thank you Bruce. It's back to where I started for the most part. The
Java/wap apps are still not working. And the GPRS indicator is back to
not showing.
I will probably get more familiar with SEEM edits before checking in
with you as to using yours. I would like to see some of the menus which
TMo have hidden, to possibly attempt further debugging of the java/wap
problems.
If you have any luck please let me know too.
Thanks again,
Martin

Re: Help Razr/Java/TMobile
Glad you've got your phone back to normal. The GPRS icons are a SEEMS
edit and is one of the things I added back. I also 'unhid' the Web
Sessions page so I can add others if needed. Other settings include
making the right softkey 'Delete' instead of 'Reply' when viewing SMS
msgs and using Autoupdate for the time. I've also boosted the gains
table settings and a few other minor tweaks. I like Motokit for SEEMS
edits. Very simple to use. If I send you my SEEMS files you can just
load them from Motokit with a couple of clicks without actually getting
into the editing.
I've been away for the last 10 days so haven't worked on the java/wap
issue but I plan on calling TMo to ask them what settings are needed for
that. Maybe they can upload something to me.

Re: Help Razr/Java/TMobile
Those edits sound great! Go ahead and send them to altmoto /atsign/
mpetersen /dotsign/ slobuds /dotsign/ com.
And I would certainly like to know how the java/wap thing goes with you.
Frankly, I am worn out of talking with those folks. The closest thing
I came to a 'hint' at what might be wrong were the IM+ people.
They said:
===>
When you are starting IM+ does your device ask you:
"Allow connections for IM+?" If you press NO - this
message that you get can appears.
If your device don't ask you this information, so most likely
Motorola has some some settings for each application to allow this
application connect to Internet or not. We advise you turn to any
Motorola mobile service, I think they will be able to help you with
this settings.
===>
Anyway, the Razr doesn't ask me to allow connections for IM+. It just
hangs there, saying 'connecting ...' Other apps hang with no indication
of what's wrong at all. (It would be nice to have a debugging system
for java/wap, by the way.)
Good luck, and thanks.
