I just bought an unlocked Motorola V551 which had been previously locked to
Rogers Wireless. Since the WAP and internet settings are still set to the
Rogers defaults, I need to change them so the phone's features work with
Fido. According to the manual, there seem to be menu options on the phone
which aren't available on the model that I have, like the one that would
normally be used to change WAP and internet settings.
Is there a way of activating these disabled menu options? What about
downloading and installing an unbranded flex image or firmware image and
installing that onto the phone?

Re: Motorola V551 settings question
I have a V635 which was Rogers branded. Just like your V551, it was
missing some menu options, especially the options to setup EDGE/GPRS
and MMS. I had its firmware upgraded to enable those options that were
hidden by the Rogers brand.

Cingular can set those options via an online tool. Maybe your carrier can
do the same. You could call and complain that GPRS isn't working.

Sounds like a viable solution to my problem. Where did you find the
firmware upgrade? I'm guessing it comes with installation
instructions, and that I need to get my cable working before I install
it...

You can either do a seem edit, or else reflash the phone. The former is
much simpler.

Thank you. I've flashed my phone, and all the missing menu otions have been
restored. I guess the only issue now is that it displays "Rogers Wireless"
instead of Fido... But I guess that makes sense, since the networks have
been merged. Is there any way to change that? I'm guessing I'd have to use
a hex editor or that seems editor someone mentioned.
