MPT allows me to copy pictures to and from my v551.
This is under the multimedia studio panel.
Does yours not show up, or can you not get it to work?
Have you looked around the BVRP forums?

I didn't hassle with the USB cable or software.
I have a Trans flash card. Installing that into the phone, you simply
click on the picture and then copy or move the picture from the phone to
    the flashcard.
Once it's on the flashcard, you read it on the computer. You'll be
needing either a gizmo that reads the Trans flash directly, or an
inexpensive adaptor for the transflash into an SD card

Also look for SanDisk MicroSD, another name for TransFlash, but the same
thing. (Note MicroSD vs. MiniSD.) I understand that Cingular retail
stores sell them, but they work any phone which takes that card not just
    GSM phones.
