Okay, I have had a silver RAZR for at least 6 months now and I love it. I
just bought a new Black RAZR and I was wondering what if anything will be
different about it. Will I need to flash/flex it as well as I did my silver
one? And, does it have more memory than the silver one stock. Also, my
brother-in-law just got a new one from Cingular, and his seems very
different as far as some screens and how loud it is. I bought both of mine
from Ebay, and I am using the older 16 bit SIM card, because I don't want to
lose the extra benefits that I have from my older cell plan. My silver one
works great and it picks up in areas that I couldn't before, but will the
black one be any better?
Also, is there any way to reprogram a 32 it SIM card (the orange/white one)
with the information from the 16 bit SIM card (the blue/white one) and get
the added benefits of having a 32 bit card? Cingular reps told me that the
32 bit card gets better reception and more options. Any truth to this? Or is
it possible to reprogram and transfer account information?
Thanks guys, and may you all have a Happy New Year!!!

Re: New Black RAZR Questions
The ONLY difference between the the silver and the black v3 is the
color. There are NO other differences between the two. The Flex/flash
version is based on when the phone was made - not on the color of the
case. Reception is the same as are all other features. It's like asking
if a black car will go faster than an identically equipped silver car.
Now, if its improvements you want, look to the v3i and the v3x, both of
which are now available.

The black one is just like the silver one with a painted case. The box
contents will be different and the software on it might be newer.
Same for the pink one of which the software is said to offer video
capturing
> Cingular reps told me that the
> 32 bit card gets better reception and more options. Any truth to this? Or is
more options perhaps, more reception certainly not... that's more of a
phone issue. The bigger cards have more storage for phone numbers
in Europeland the carrier will exchange simcards (keeping the original
number and the contract/plan) either for free or a very minimal amount
of money
I had a couple exchanged for 32Bit and then months later for UMTS
(WCDMA) sim cards
I realize, that this might not help you at all in US Land.... but just
to say: technically it is possible and no problem whatsoever

Re: New Black RAZR Questions
Video capturing is available on the silver ones too. Cingular didn't
offer it initially but TMobile has it and ANY razr, new or old, can add
it with a flex upgrade and some seem edits. See www.motox.us to learn
how to add it or, if you have it, extend the recording length. I bought
one of the first Razr phones just over a year ago and I have added
features and functions that are still not available from Motorola - none
of these mods were affeted by the phone's paint job (or lack thereof).
All the razr's can be upgraded to the very latest software in a matter
of minutes.
I will be offering my razr v3 for sale shortly as I will be taking
delivery of a new v3i just as soon as Fedex brings it. Now THAT will be
an upgrade!

Sorry if this is a tad pedantic, but it's not a flex upgrade on some V3s
that provides video - On my silver V3, I couldn't enable video with the seem
edits until I'd flashed with the latest flash version. Other sets may be
different, but I'd recommend flashing before you flex, as the re-flexing can
be destructive to your settings whereas flashing is not.
If after flashing you can't edit seems for video recording, then I'd flex
but not before I'd tried flashing first!
Cheers,
D.

Re: New Black RAZR Questions
Good point. When I did mine I "rebranded" from Cingular to TMO and got
the video as part of it. I used Motox's "flexlash" to do an "all in one"
that also gave me the Multi Character search function in the phonebook.
While a flex will wipe the phone clean, backing up is fairly simple with
Motokit.

Yep. I'm inclined to re-flash mine up to the latest, but I have a sneaky
suspicion that I'll lose all the Tesco branding that's currently installed.
That's not the cl.gif etc, I've modded *everything*, but I don't want to
lose the "internal" settings like web browsing etc. I also understand that
connecting to SMS and such settings would be lost?
Not sure if I could do that, tbh.
On the up-side, I've had a whale of a time modding. Mostly the skin (new
tahoma small font and a heavily modified RazrV2.0 skin) which really is
starting to look the biz :-)
One thing I would ask, is about animated gif speed. On mine, a fullscreen
animgif at 176x220 crawls along. Smaller gifs are a lot faster. Is there any
fix for this? I've got the latest 0ER flash, and didn't notice a speedup in
the animation.

Re: New Black RAZR Questions
Motox has 4 "brandings" in the Flex files, you just have to pick the
right one. He's got Cingular, TMo, Vodaphone and generic. FWIW, I was
able to use all the TMo settings even when my phone was Cingular
branded. I just called TMo and they did the updates over the air while I
was on the phone (landline) with them. When I switched over to the TMo
flex all the settings were there already. The v3i I have on the way will
probably be generic which is fine too as I can still get the settings
uploaded. Now I'm waiting for Motox to whip up some magic for the v3i
as he got his last week.

Well, I re-flexed up to the latest version on MotoX (released on Christmas
day) and all went well. Phone book survived intact, it must have been stored
on the SIM. Got the MMS/Web settings backed up and restored easily enough.
The menus are definitely quicker and the phone feels a lot more responsive.
Those bloody Animated GIFs still move like a snail on cannabis though. Any
ideas on anything else I can try to get these things to display at a
reasonable rate?

I'm not into any of the graphics stuff but you might find answers at
www.motomodders.net. There's a lot of discussion about that stuff there
as well as files to d/l.

Re: New Black RAZR Questions
Okay, everything sounds great. From what I have seen of my brother-in-law's
phone, just some of the menus are different and the way that his gain table
works is backwards from mine. It seems that maybe the software is a little
different, but that's fine. The one other noticeable item is that my phone
has two lines on it, where his doesn't even mention capability for a second
line. Is this because my phone is unlocked.
And a final question for now. I know how to flash and flex my phone with the
different software programs, but what does it mean to "use the latest RSD
v2.3 to flash" command in Motox? I downloaded the latest Monster pack to
flex my old silver phone and my new one when it gets here, but I still want
to be careful and do the right thing when I go about this. Can anyone help
on this?
