V3 RAZR Antenna Question

Is it possible to increase the power or the gain of the antenna through one
of the seem edits? I was just wondering since almost anything else can be
done. Makes since that we could, all that needs to be done is increase the
power to the antenna, right?

Re: V3 RAZR Antenna Question

The full listing of SEEM edits is availble for download at
www.xlr8.us/hofo. Nothing as you've described is listed but more edits
are being discovered monthly. It is unlikely that such an edit exists
as making changes to the power output would likely violate FCC (and
similar agencies in other countries) rules and possibly pose a safety
hazard. That's not to say that there isn't some method of adustment but
no modders have discovered it yet.

Re: V3 RAZR Antenna Question

I would agree, it would be like holding a low wattage microwave to
your head,Also to double the effective radiayed power you would have
to increase the power output by something like 4 times.....even if it
weren't dangerous it would suck the bottom out of your battery with
the power drain.

No. The effective radiated power is the product of the power amplifier
output power and the antenna gain (or loss for that matter). Antenna
gain is not influenced by the power applied, so it is fully sufficient
to increase the power output by two in order to double the effective
radiated power.

I guess what you ment is the fact that you need to multiply the ERP by a
factor of four to double the range of your radio. This is because the
surface of the sphere covered by the EM field increases by a factor of
four when you double the radius.

In fact, even if you do increase the ERP of your cellphone transmitter,
you won't gain a lot of additional range because you would also need to
boost the downlink transitter at the base station.
