I have had my phone for a few months and have had a few recharging
anomilies on occasion.
Just now, I was charging the original battery with the stock AC charger.
I picked up the phone and it was HOT. Not so hot as to burn, but much
hotter than I have ever noticed.
It is rare for me to touch the phone during a charge cycle. I think I
have probably done it before and didn't notice the phone being hot.
I also have had a freshly charged battery discharge in the span of a few
hours. (No, I wasn't talking on it long enough to burn a fresh battery.)
Any experience with this among Razr owners?
Thanks,
Ray

Re: Razr Battery Probs
Sounds like bad batteries. I've never gotten more than a year out of a
battery before having to replace it. BTW, don't throw them in the trash!
Bring your old rechargeables to Radio Shack or Home Depot and they'll
recycle them for you for free even if you bought them elsewhere.

I've noticed a thing that's quite worrying - connecting the Razr to a PC,
and having a full charge (ie, turn off, charge overnight, turn on, connect
to PC) drained in less than a minute. I regularly connect the Razr to the PC
for modding purposes and uploading etc, and it happens maybe once in every
ten sessions.
I connect it, the battery indicator switches from three green bars to a
flashing red battery and I get about ten minutes before the phone switches
off, at which point it needs an overnight charge again.
Funny thing is, that I can run the phone for about four days without needing
to charge if I don't connect it to the PC.
I just put it down to Motorola's general sub-standard production - like
their unbelievably badly-written firmware. Even despite it's faults I still
love the little sod to bits

Re: Razr Battery Probs
If you have the right drivers installed (the ones that come with MPT)
you should not be running on battery at all but rather receiving power
through the USB cable.

They're the only drivers I've ever installed. Most times, the phone will
charge fine through the USB. But as I said, one in ten times I get a full
battery drained to totally flat in less time than it takes to start up MPT.

Re: Razr Battery Probs
I think I'd try a new battery. They usually only last for year at best
from my experience.

As does mine - and I've investigated a little and found the culprit to be
P2KTools
It's only when a connection between software and phone is made that this
happens. Now, if I knew why, I'd fix it :-)

Check that you are connecting the USB cable to the real USB port on the back
of the PC and not one on a keyboard (like some Dells) as they are the high
power USB connections. The USB driver software needs to recognise the phone
in order to turn on the power to charge the phone, which is why the USB
driver has to be installed correctly. On some makes of laptops connecting
through the docking station can give problems.

The only USB ports I *have* are at the back of the machine
And both P2KTools and Windows Device Manager recognise the phone properly.

Re: Razr Battery Probs (runs HOT)
Thanks for the reply.
I'm no battery expert, but I have recharged my phone
since the HOT incident and the phone was just slightly
warmer than normal, maybe 5 degrees F. The charge
operated the phone for the normal three/four days.
I'm wondering if there is some "bug" in the s/w of this
phone that causes it the run the HOT. I have on a few
occasions, had single conversations that lasted over
one hour and the phone did not get hot. I don't know
what is drawing the power but it is not solely the
transmitter.
This battery has about 4 months (5 max) of daily use.
I have on at least two occasions had a freshly charged
battery became discharged to the point that the phone
was stone-cold dead in a matter of about two hours.
The first time it happened I had had the phone less
than two months.
Now I don't know a lot about the chemistry and physics
of batteries, but it sure seems to me that something
else is going on here.
I have not connected the phone to any computer, let
let alone modded the s/w.
These power issues not withstanding, I still think
this is the best phone I have ever had -- especially
its radio performance.

Ray

Sounds like there could be an intermittant short in the phone.
