    My wife hates the current phones that Verizon offers, and she loves my
    old V60s. We don't need camera's on our phones, or color screens, and
    it's nice to have something with some substance and some metal in it.

    Soooo. I buy a barely used V60s on e-bay. I call verizon, they say no
    problem, just bring it into a store and they'll re-task it or whatever.
    Not so fast. For some reason, despite the fact that this is actually a
    V60s, when verizon punches the eis, or "HEX" number in, their system
    itendtifies this phone as a V60 "p" that's supposed to have some kind of
    push to talk external button. For this reason they cannot retask the
    phone. We spent an hour on the line with verizon (after going to a mall
    kiosk) and they insisted that this phone is a V60p. Finally they told us
    that they could get it to work but they would have to actually see the
    phone to verify that it isn't a V60p. They said they could manually
    overide their database if it's not a V60p.

    So off we go to an actuall Verizon store. We give them the phone, prove
    to them that it is in fact a V60s and not a "p", and they say they
    cannot re-assign it because their system will not recognize it as
    anything but a "p", and they cannot manually overide it. They suggested
    we contact motorola. So here I am.

    Now you have to remember, the phone I'm using right now is a V60s,
    identical to the one I bought my wife. Does anyone have any ideas? Is
    Verizon messing with me because they want me to buy a phone from them?
    Can I check this HEX number myself somewhere or get a number that verizon
    will identify correctly? Verizon says it the last number, the third
    number on the bottom of the bar coded sticker that is giving them a
    problem. It's funny because the second number clearly says the phone is
    a V60s.

    Any idea's?

    Posting in this newsgroup isn't contacting Motorola, it's contacting a
    bunch of Motorola users who may or may not know how to solve your
    problem. Did you contact Motorola? Did you get any help from them?

    Possibly the phone you bought on Ebay may have been modified prior to
    your buying it?

    FWIW, Verizon does have some basic phones available, if you can return
    the phone to the seller you might be ahead to consider one of them???

    I know this is a news group, and I know what a news group is, I've been
    using them for 15 years. Obviously posting here is not the only action
    I've taken, this is one of many avenues I'm pursuing ( no motorola phone
    support on the weekends). As I said in the original post, we've looked
    at the verizon phones currently available and don't like them, that'w why
    I got this phone.

    In the meantime I've gone to yet another verizon dealer who tried to get
    the phone to work. The problem appears to lie in the Verizon database.
    They have that phone listed ( he accessed the ESN number in the phone to
    make sure it matched the one on the sticker in case someone put another
    sticker on top of an old one) as the wrong model. Not sure how or why
    this happened but Verizon techs are supposed to get back to me in the
    next few days to let me know if they can change the model in their
    database.

    I hope that solves the problem.

    Have you tried contacting Verizon by phone? I've found their phone
    support service folks to be pretty knowledgeable and the people in the
    stores much* less so. If a tech can find the problem or redo the data
    base for that phone, whatever, he can contact the store and leave
    instructions for the people in the store. If all else fails, give that
    a try.

    *much, much, MUCH less so!

    Yes, I spent an hour on the phone with verizon, got nowhere. I'll try
    again on Monday with the tech support directly.
