This is a follow-up to a previous message. My son has a V551 which worked
fine until the screen display died on it. He was still able to make
outgoing calls, but he could not see the display or hear the phone ring.
Following suggestions made here, we contacted Cingular and they quickly sent
us a replacement phone which we received yesterday. My son put the battery
and SIM card into the new phone and it worked fine except for one problem.
He apparently lost all his pictures, ring tones and his address book. I
thought they would have been on the SIM card, but they are not there. Are
they lost forever, or is it likely they are still in the old phone? I
haven't returned the old phone yet.

My question is this. He has a bluetooth dongle and software on his laptop
which he used to use to transfer pictures from his phone to his laptop. If
he puts the SIM card and battery back into his old phone and turns the phone
on, will the bluetooth software recognize the phone and will he be able to
transfer his ringtones and address book over to the laptop? He has
transferred pictures before, but not the other stuff. He can no longer see
the display on the old phone, so if this process requires him to type
anything into the old phone, it could be tricky. If that works, I am
assuming he could then return the SIM Card and battery to the new phone and
use the same process to transfer the tones and address book to the new
phone. Does this seem feasible? If not, is there any other way to get data
off the old phone without being able to see the display?

They are still in the old phone.

If he has the right software (e.g., Motorola Phone Tools), yes.

If it's already paired, nothing more should be needed on the phone.

    Yes.
