RAZR Driver

Tried USB cable from MP3 Player and connection works fine as computer
correctly detects the RAZR But... computer says it needs files. Something I
need to purchase? Drivers?

The drivers are bundled with the connection software.

The "mobile Phone tools" from Motorola is free.

But if you want to synchronize with outlook then you have to invest 20
bucks or so for the "professional version".

It's $50 on the Moto site - a lot cheaper on ebay!

Motorola phone tools standard always comes bundled here (in Germany). So
I thought it is "free". Only the "professional version" has to be paid
for. The primary value of this upgrade is synchronisation with Outlook.

But if you just want to upload/download data and so on then you can go
to any of the alternative programs like Mobiledit! which has a free
starter version or start at motomodders.net or motox.us to find more.

Wolfgang

PS: All and every data capable phone I know has some software bundled
with it. I think its no good idea of Motorola to sell this extra. Its
speaking strongly against them.

Do you have Bluetooth on your PC? The OBEX data transfer does work
without any additional PC software with the RAZR.

Just found a site here which is offering the professional version
bundled with the USB cable for 30.70 Euro:

Re: RAZR Driver

In the US most carriers (not Motorola) sell the phones stripped down to
the very basic. They may include a cheap headset but you usually get
just the phone, battery, manual, and a charger. The phones are heavily
subsidized so accesories like cables and software aren't included. You
didn't get yours for free - the cost was bundled into the package you
purchased. European & Asian versions usually include more and cost more.

"not Motorola"? I bought a (Cingular) subsidized V180 last fall- phone,
battery, manual, charger is all I remember. Was there a CD in there I
didn't notice?

Maybe only people rich enough to pay a guy to remove vowels get more?

I think that you misunderstood BruceR... He's saying that Motorola doesn't
strip the phone down, but that the carriers here in the States do. In other
words, because our phones cost less then Euro phones do, they come with
fewer goodies, like MPT.

I see it now, thanks. I suppose wishful thinking might have influenced
my interpretation- I need MPT but can't afford it and won't pirate it.

I'm (i)syncing OK to my Mac mini, but currently have no solution for
my Windows XP laptop. I can use the V180 as a modem, but that's all,
so far.

Re: RAZR Driver

Phil, Aaron properly clarified my intent. Motorola is not a carrier;
it's Cingular, TMo, etc. that order the phones bundled or, more
accurately, UNbundled to keep costs low. Most people probably never miss
MPT. I respect you for not wanting to pirate it but you don't need to
spend the $50 retail price to get a legit copy. There are lots of ebay
sellers selling MPT for as little as $14 delivered including the cable.
As long as you get a version that's 2.11 or higher it will update itself
to version 4.04 (or whatever is newest) as you do the installation.

Thanks for the info. I would pay $5 to download from a known legit site.
I might pay $10 for a CD. If that's not enough for the author, I will do
without until owning it is obviously necessary or I have disposable
income.
