OK, I had a problem with volume going to hell on my 551. Turned out to
be corrosion on the speaker. Opened up and wiggled it around a bit and
it's working fine. However, this opened up a few questions.

When it went belly up, I went to the local Cingular office (and tackle
shop). The 551 is "obsolete" and they don't have it anymore at all.

The Razr is still there for $300 but uses a USB connection with,
apparently, an adapter to connect to a genuine USB cable. Of course,
it comes with a charger but the actual cable is $60.

I have a small fortune in 551 cables and chargers as well as MPT

Question:

Is the new phone (a 557) compatable with the 551? re
cables/chargers/MPT etc?

Can the RAZR be used with a regular type A USB cable? How about with
MPT?

I have a bunch of auto/usb adapters. Will they charge the RAZR?

And, last but not least, what kind of prices can I find if I want to
shop around and not go through Cingular. I see them for $175-200 on
Ebay. Good deal? Are they usually unlocked? Cingular says they don't
charge to activate one.

Last time my phone died, I had to get what they had at Cingular.
Usually not much. A Razr then (about a year ago) was on a 2 month wait
and cost $400. It's come down some but it would still be faster to get
one online.
