After much thought about the principals of this, I have decided to
post a message and get some feedback. I actually called Verizon and
asked them why it is taht people can not (technically) upload their
own custom ringtones, pictures, etc.. to their phones rather than
being forced to pay one of Verizons partners. Their offical answer
was this (chuckle).."That is why we have partners like Modtones,
etc... they are their to provide our customers with the best possible
product to compliment our services...(extended garbage)..."
My response to Verizon is this:
I (and everyone else like me) have paid for my Motorola phone. I own
my phone, it is my phone. Motorola created these phones the way they
are to allow the consumer (me) to customize this phone based on my
personality, likes, etc...not the personality of Verizon.
Verizon is my celluylar service provider. They make it possible for
me to use this phone and nothing else. If Verizon would like to pay
me a fee for advertising, I will permit them to show their "Verizon
Wireless" banner on the outside of my phone while it is in use.
Otherwise, my outside banner will read whatever else it is I want it
to.
Modtones will not get another penny out of my pocket to customize my
polyphonic ringtones, because I am more than happy to create, edit
and upload my own
midi files to my phone free of charge.. because
after all, it is my phone.
There are not enough people out there who know how to take controle
of their own phone (their own property). Here is what I found:
GAGIN: The current version of GAGIN with Windows XP and my USB data
cable (Purchased from eForce Trading) workes flawlessly.
Want to change that annoying Verizon Wireless banner on the outside
fo your phone? Then use BitPim to do it. Current 0.5 release of
BitPim does a fantastic job showing you the contents of your phone..
WARNING: DO NOT MESS WITH THESE FUNCTIONS UNLESS YOU HAVE READ AND
UNDERSTOOD THE DIRECTIONS.
Keep in mind, that you assume responsability by messing with your
phone, so I do not advise you mess with it unless 1: you are willing
to accept it and 2: you have some sense enough to only mess with your
tones.
Having said all this, I would like some feedback from all of you on
this topic.
