I think my V400, which I dearly loved, finally gave up the ghost. It won't
even power up.
I'm thinking of getting an unlocked V557 from ebay or somewhere because I
like the size, shape and feel of my 400.
Questions
1. Is the V557 or 551 a pretty good phone?
2. Will my V400 chargers and data cable fit?
I am using an AT&T sim card in my unlocked V400 with Cingular right now. I
guess I can do the same with either of those phones (unlocked)
Also I use a telescopic antenna on it for reception out here in the country.
I think the antenna will fit.
Thanks for any info and advice.

Your sim should work fine but cingular screwed me once. The new cingular
sims won't work in old Nokia phones so I assume they did that so you will
be forced to plunk down for a new one.

But I'm using my old AT&T sim. Works fine in the 400. Well when the 400
worked. hahaha!

The V551 is a V400 with bluetooth. The V557 is a V551 with PTT.
Your SIM card and all accessories should work fine as long as the phone is
unlocked.

Thanks, Mike. Is PTT push to talk, I guess? Will that work with ATT or
Cingular?

Yes, and yes.

Re: V557 good?
I switched from a V400 to a V557 with no problem. The sim card swapped
without a hitch, although I did not keep any of my phone book information on
it. To transfer that, I backed up the V400 to my computer using Mobile
Phone Tools and a USB cable. I then used the same software and cable to
"restore" them to the V557. One reason I switched to the V557 is that I
got a car with Bluetooth. Previously, with the V400, I used a Motorola
hands-free device. The V557 works with that as well, so I threw it in my
truck.

Good. I just ordered a V557. I also sitched from ATT to Cingular to avoid
all the unlock hassles and junk. I would eventually like to unlock the 557
if its not a big deal.
I have my phone book on the 'puter also, fortunately.

Cingular will provide the subsidy unlock code to a customer with an account
in good standing, and international roaming enabled on the account.
No big deal. I had my v551 unlocked about a month after I got it, by
posting a request via the "contact us" page on the Cingular Web site.

OK. I bought a V557 though and it can't be unlocked by code only. The other
phones, Moto L2 and LG cg225 can't either. Bummer!
