    Hello group,

My friend has a razr from verizon wireless. He installed MPT 4.0 on his
computer and followed the instructions and the software comes up but just
says initializing. I also have a razr (not verizon) and MPT 4.0 and I don't
have any problems with it. I know people don't like the verizon version of
the razr, but did verizon mess with the phone so you can't use MPT with it?
If not, what else could be wrong? Since I can't get to his house, I just
have to take his word that the drivers were setup correctly, but I don't
    know for sure.

    Thanks for the help,

    John

Verizon cripples their phones so that you have to pay them to transfer
    ringtones and wallpaper.

Verizon actually just limits the available Bluetooth profiles.
You can use cable instead at no cost other than the cable,
which is very cheaply available on eBay.

MPT definitely works with my RAZR V3m using Bluetooth. I use it to sync
contacts and appointments. Verizon blocks other functions, such as
transferring wallpaper images, but this doesn't prevent MPT from working.

That's a nice way of saying "cripple." The manufacturer builds in the
    functionality and Verizon cripples it.

With Bluetooth, for example, you can only use it with a headset - you
can't transfer ringtones and wallpaper or synch addresses/calendar with
    a computer.

    That's pretty ****ty.

    I disagree.

    >The manufacturer builds in the

Verizon chooses what functionality it thinks appropriate for the market,
just like other carriers. Don't like those choices? Then go with a
different carrier. That's how a free market works.

    So use a cable.

    >That's pretty ****ty.

    Again, I disagree.

    Re: razr and MPT

Can you still transfer ringtones. Or is the blocked also? Thats pretty much
what he wants to use MPT for is to transfer ringtones and wallpaper images.
If you can use the bluetooth then I will have to tell him the get a
    bluetooth adapter.

    Thanks,
    John

    Re: razr and MPT

He is using a cable. I wouldn't think it has to be the motorola brand cable.
A usb to mini usb cable should be the same. Anyways if MPT will work with
the razr v3m then he must not have the driver installed correctly. Any other
    thoughts if that isn't it?

    Thanks,
    John

If thats the case, do you know if you can flex the phone to allow the
    transfer of ringtones and wallpapers?

He may not have installed the correct drivers. See my periodic post

They cripple functionality so that you have to pay them to transfer
photos, ringtones, and wallpaper. No other major carrier cripples their
    hardware.

It doesn't matter how you access the phone, i.e. BT or cable - the same
functions are blocked. The easiest way to unblock many of the phone's
features is to use the software from Cellcables.com (with a cable, not
    BT)...

    http://www.cellcables.com/motorola-v...pers-games.php

You can hack the phone yourself with instructions from www.Howardforums.com
if you can find them and figure them out.

Then tell me why Verizon cripples functionality if not to make more
    money from unsuspecting rubes.

And name me another major carrier that cripples their hardware.

Most likely security and prevention of theft. (This has been covered ad
nauseum -- use Google Groups for more detail.)

    >And name me another major carrier that cripples their hardware.

All carriers make choices on which features are enabled and supported.
For example, Cingular disables network selection on devices used on its
    network.
