I have a mototola v266 and mobile phone tools. Each time I try and use
melody studio to get music (ringtones) from a cd or any source, and
transfer it to my phone, the phone gives me a "corrupt file" message
and won't play the music.....Any ideas?

    Re: corrupt file message

Do you know what type of file is supported by your phone? If it's only .mmf
or .mid then a mp3 for instance will not work. Also the length of the file
name cannot exceed a certain number of characters.

mp3 and mid are both supported. I seem to have the right format. It's
just that MPT doesn't seem to do what it is supposed to do as far as
    installing ring tones is concerend.

    Re: corrupt file message

I have the latest update. It recognizes my phone and will gather
contacts & calendar info. When I try to load a ringtone and play it the
phone gives me a corrupt file message.

    Re: corrupt file message

I do remember a fix to a problem like this in MPT. Certain programs when
installed changes a codec needed to transfer mp3 to the phone. It requires
editing the registry which is not too dificult. Backup the registry first.
In the run box type regedit. then OK. Go to file then export. Type a date
and save it say to your desktop. Then follow the next directions:
Some packages (perhaps Roxio's Easy-CD Creator? I'm not sure) install a
playback-only version of the driver. The driver in question is l3codeca.acm,
which is replaced by the playback-only version l3codecx.acm. Fortunately,
the original driver file is not lost; you just need to edit the Registry. In
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32,
locate the item named msacm.l3acm. Its value should be changed from
l3codecx.acm to l3codeca.acm. To confirm that you have successfully changed
the driver, once again open Sounds and Audio Devices, and find the codec.

Note that it may be necessary to use the full pathname (e.g.,
C:\WINDOWS\system32\l3codeca.acm) for the codec in order for its name to
appear properly in the Audio codecs list

    Re: corrupt file message

If the files you're trying to install on the phone can be verified as not
being corrupt then the only other possibility that I know of is that the
phone's software may be at fault or you have a defective cable. Try using
another cable or go bluetooth to verify whether the phone's connector went
    bad.
Has anyone done any seem editing or flashing that you know of on this
phone? It's possible by flashing the software it may correct the problem. I
have the latest version of MPT and have no problem transferring mp3s, jpgs,
videos, phonebook entries editing seems etc.via cable or bluetooth to my V3.

    Re: corrupt file message

Before you flash your phone I would advise that you make sure your usb cable
is not defective or the connection on your phone is not defective. You can
buy a cheap bluetooth dongle on ebay to plug to your PC and transfer files
back and forth to your phone. If it still dosen't work even with a new cable
then click on the following link to read on how to flash your phone.
