K1- Useless

I bought a K1 and installed MTP. I have been unable to get the phone to
connect with the cable it just comes back saying not found.
I have tried this on 3 pc's. Absolutely useless.
I have now had to ask the supplier for a refund and am waiting on the
decision
Anyone else had a problem with this phone?

Hey there, I haven't had the same problem you have had, but my
daughter who has gone through countless phones wanted a K1. I went
ahead and got her one and the thing didn't last her a week. Tossed her
a SYNC and so far so good (also told her this was the last one she was
getting from dad )

I have a K1m and MPT works fine for me.

I'd suggest that you uninstall *everything* (moto modem drivers, etc), then
reinstall.

When you start MPT, have the phone DISconnected at first and don't connect
it until prompted.

Likely causes:
1. Bad cable. Try a different cable.
2. Too old a version of MPT.
Live Update to bring it _completely_ up to date.
3. Wrong USB driver*:
(a) Download latest driver from

<http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/Handset_USB_Driver/>
(b) Uninstall whatever driver is in there now.
(c) Install the downloaded driver
(d) Plug in phone. Should be found and driver installed.
(e) Check to be sure the right driver is installed.
(f) Reinstall this driver if MPT is reinstalled.
* Typically caused by plugging in phone _before_ installing the Motorola
driver, which results in a Microsoft driver being installed that won't
work.
