I asked the following question in the BVRPforum.com/motorola and so called
BVRP Support Staff.
When I place the MTP 4.4.0A Phone Tool CD into the player, the following
message comes up:
"An error [-5003 : 0x5 ] has occurred while running the setup.
Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and close other
applications."
I run XP Home with all the latest updates & patches. I checked and had
nothing else running at the time. Then I attempted to install it in Save
Mode...Same error message. I tried to install it on a friend's computer and
had no problem.
Envy advice and help? Please don't suggest BVRP Support Staff. The are a
useless lot as the told me to UPDATE to a 4.36 version. That is older the my
4.4.0A Phone Tool CD. Just to try it, I did with same result and error
message.
Thanking you in advance,
John

I've seen the error message before on a few different software installs. Its
not MPT specific
Try creating a new user and installing under that user, also make sure your
AV is off.
Failing that have a look at some of these user experiences:

Glad to see you got your free MPT software in the end

Re: Problem installing Phone Tool
Thank you Mike. You are a champion.
The link you gave me had the simple solution and it allowed me to install
the MPT software.
Now why did BVRP Support Staff not come up with this. I went on to the BVRP
forum and then corresponded 4 or 5 times back and forth. Every suggestion
was useless until I was told that the could not help me. You sometimes
wonder who this support staff is?
Anyway thank you again...much appreciated.
John
PS I did not get a free MPT software. The reason for my looking for a
freebie was that the original purchased MPT CD did not install and I could
not get help from support. Therefore my looking.
