I loaded several ringtones to the memory card directory - mobile/ringtone.
When I try to use these ringtones, they are not available. The manual does
    not explane this.

    Help....

    See More: V3xx ringtone

You don't mention which application you're using to make the transfer.
What format are the music files you've uploaded? Without any more
information, I'll make a guess that you uploaded files in a format that
your phone doesn't use A) they really weren't uploaded, B) they won't be
    available.

If you used some file transfer utility other than Motorola Phone Tools,
the files may be misdirected. MPT automatically puts music files and
ringtones in the right place if you use the music utility and not the
    straight file transfer.

If you are using P2K Tools, P2K Commander or some such the default is to
open the \a drive on the phone. there is a mobile\ringtone folder
located there, but it's for internal use. Anything uploaded there will
not be able to be accessed. You would need to access the mobile\audio
folder under the \c drive. That's where ringtones that are user
    accessible reside.

There are several other file transfer utilities and each has it's
quirks. So perhaps, if you can provide which one you used to make the
transfer and what file type? midi, MP3, wav, CDA...?

After I installed the 2G microSD memory card, the phone created a lot of
directories. There was "mobile" and a lot of sub directories, one of them is
"ringtone". I connect the phone with a USB cord and use windows file
explorer to drag-drop the mp3 ringtones to the ringtone directory. The
manual does not explain this at all and does not mention all the directories
created on the memory card by the phone.

I thought it made good sense to put ringtones in the directory the phone
created. I guess I was wrong. The only directories that can be accessed with
    windows explorer is those mentioned.

The V3xx is one the first Moto phones that allow ringtones to be
accessed from the memory card as well as the phones internal memory, but
there are other limitations that will prevent your ringtone from being
    recognized:

    1. File Size - the limit is somewhere between 500 and 600kb. The Moto
specs say 500, but some owners claim to have gotten it to play tones up to
    600 kb.
    2. Bit rate - if you are using an MP3 as a ring tone, the maximum bit rate
that most Moto phones will play, either as a ring tone or as a song is 192.
Some V3xx owners claims to have made it work with 256bit.

You can check the file size by viewing it in My Computer. To find the bit
rate, play your ring tone with Window Media Player. While it's playing
    choose File and then Properties.

I found out that if I put the mp3 ringtones in the music directory on the
memory card rather than the ringtone directory, they can be accessed and
    used. Thanks for your help.

The V3xx (subject of this thread) supports bit rates higher than 192
Kbps, as you would know if you'd read the developer documentation, or
checked my prior posts, instead of just guessing.. Please do not spread
    Internet Myths.

The V3xx supports MP3 bitrates up to an _average_ of 256 Kbps (320 Kbps
    peak).

In addition to MP3, the V3xx supports (unprotected) AAC audio up to (and
    including) 320 Kbps.

    Re: V3xx ringtone

I've got a new V3xx and MPT updated to the current version. I've created mp3's using Melody Editor in MPT, made sure they are under 500 kb created at 128 bit rate, slightly under 30 seconds. No matter where I try to make MPT put the mp3, it goes into the Music folder. When I try to set that mp3 as the ringtone for a contact, the mp3 does not show in the list.

Is there a setting I'm missing to enable mp3 ringtones on the phone? I'm really at a loss to determine what I'm missing.
