Most everybody who reads a newspaper once in a while knows.
SBC, a "baby bell" created by the 1984 breakup bought what was left of
ATT. ATT is a better known national brand than SBC so they chose to
replace their own SBC name with the ATT name for better brand
recognition. When Cingular bought ATT Wireless they didn't know that
several years later SBC, part owner of Cingular, would buy ATT and
Southern Bell (the other Cingular owner) which put them in a position to
name everything ATT. That's the reasoning behind this "crapola."
Again, those who read the papers once in a while are not confused by
this.
