I bought an adapter that is supposed to allow you to plug in standard
stereo/MP3/iPod headphones into the USB port on the Moto Q to allow you to
use the phone like an MP3 player.
When I plug it in, the sound still comes out of the internal speaker. Is
there a way to get the music to only come through the headset jack and not
the speaker?
I am using the standard Windows Medial Player that comes with the phone, if
that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The Q does not send sound through the USB port. Read your manual.
