Sounds like a loose or dirty contact. Oxidation can form on contacts and
the removal and reinsertion cleans them enough to work again. Remove the
SIM and use a standard pencil eraser to gently clean the contacts on the
SIM. Don't rub or scrub - a few LIGHT passes is enough. Reinsert the SIM
a few times and you should be good to go.

    Thanks!

Why a 'pencil eraser'?....and if we don't have that, what else could
    be used?

...Also: can any wireless store do this for us at no cost?

    Also:

When you at times fully charge a battery for a RAZR, and then you plug
it back in to charge even MORE,
....WHY doesn't the screen already say it's been 'fully charged'?

    Thanks

You don't have pencil? A pencil eraser (like the little one on top of
most pencils) is abrasive but not TOO abrasive. Any wireless store, or
for that matter, anybody with an eraser topped pencil, could do this for
you. You could also use a chamois cloth but, for the last 45 years,
I've been cleaning contacts successfully with nothing more sophisticated
than a pencil eraser. Any office supply store can sell you a box of
pencils or just an eraser for under a buck.
You can also try a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol.

It will usually within a minute. It takes a little time for the built in
charger to "decide" that the battery is already full.

They are supposed to be available around September but who knows? As
for the differences, there are many. Better Screen, better camera, more
memory, high speed data, just to name a few. See more at
www.motorola.com. I currently have a v6MAXX which is much better than
the v3 and I'm looking forward to one of the even newer models

I'm probable a lot older than the majority of the people in this group
    (59) but I love the "latest and greatest" when it comes to technology
of any kind. (I had Vista ordered with my new laptop last
    October...nothing spectacular BTW).

With phones, my husband gets my "old one" and I get the new. I just
got the Razr V3xx Gold to replace my old Razr (which my better half
    took).

Any details on the new one available this Fall? Our next upgrade is
    due 11/07 <SMILE>.
