If its a Verizon phone, its already unlocked. Typically the unlock
code with all Motorola phones sold via Verizon is "000000" (six
zeros). Of course, you need to know the "DEBUG" code to get in and do
things with the phone. I'll leave that exercise up to you (hint - do a
Google or Howard Forum search). Or figure it out from this post....
    :-)

Its not like a GSM phone where they're locked by default (if sold by
    AT&T or T-Mobile).

Sorry, probably the wrong term to use. I want to be able to use MPT to
transfer tunes, pic's, whatever from the computer to the phone...

I have MPT 4.0 and the cable. After trying to use them I found verizon
had this pretty much blocked out. I'm seeing people talking about
working around this. I would like to do it myself if I can find some
clear directions of what to do.

I am working around it a little my putting the mSD in a card reader
and loading it. Then put the card into the phone. That got old fast
and I'm really not doing much but moving some pictures.

I had no clue this phone was so neutered or I would have never got it.

It's the correct term but it has two meanings apparently, it means
unlocking a phone so it can be used on a carrier other than the one it
was designed for, the other meaning is what you're trying to do.

It's easy to un-neuter, I'll bet your dog would like for the vet to
    tell him that!

You're right in thinking Howard Forums is the answer but when someone
tells you to go read the forum and you'll find your answer what's meant
by "reading the forums" is to read carefully and follow ALL the links
you encounter because a lot of the information you need is there.

If you read Howard Forums you might have encountered this link:

    http://mark.cdmaforums.com/

It may be the help you need.

Just out of curiosity, why are you so determined to use MPT? I have an
E815/MPT and wanted to do the same sort of stuff, and found the cable I had
for that phone worked perfect to do all that stuff with BitPim
(compatibility chart says it should work on your phone, it is free by the
way, get it at http://www.bitpim.org/)... Did I mention it's free? and the
link for getting it is pasted here? You must already have a cable if you are
using MPT. so what do you have to lose?

One caveat (and unfortunately I ran into this), if you have a Micro SD card
(you said you did above), and have the phones camera/mp3 player/etc set to
use the memory card for storage, it will fail.. You have to set it back to
store stuff in the phone for you to access it and transfer things between
    your 'puter and the phone...

Okay, then that means he has the data cable already (or he couldn't use
it/MPT), so as I said, why not use bitpim (it's free, does what he wants,
and uses the same cable he already has for MPT)? I have MPT and a Moto E815,
and now use Bitpim with the cable I used to use for MPT and do exactly what
he wants, lets me transfer pix/mp3's, ringtones, videoes etc... Seems sort
of silly to seem edit the phone to do what you want, rather than just use
free different software... Don't get me wrong, I'm all for brand loyalty,
but I have no problem with looking at alternate solutions that also work
    with that brand stuff

Just out of curiosity, have you tried the later versions of bitpim? (as of
june 12th it is now version 1.0.0) My e815 didn't work about a year or so
ago, but some of the previous versions and now the latest version handles
it... There is a compatibility chart that shows the v3m, and all the
    functions supported...

I have MPT and a cable, but this is really cool cuz I can take pics/movies
with the camera, and then transfer em to my computer just by plugging the
cable in (or the other way with ringtnes/mp3s etc)... it's cool

Yes, this morning after reading your post.

I can't test it with an unedited seem as I'm too lazy to put it back
    like it was!

Ditto, using MPT but I don't want any other ringtones or mp3s so all I
do is backup the phone book and move pictures to the HD.

I have the data cable. I have MPT 4.0. And not I have BitPim 10.0

What I really would like to find is a step by step of what to do...

At one point I had MPT 4.0 on my computer. I would plug in my V3m. The
computer would see it as new hardware showing it as a V3c.

In MPT I did not have the V3m as a choice. I had the V3c & I think
the V3cm. Both close, but no cigar... I tried them both. A little
would happen. But neither was right.

I have got nothing to happen with BitPim at all. Dose not even see the
phone. Again the choice of V3m is not there. So I'm not sure what to
    do.

I did remove MPT from my computer. Dose it have to be installed and
running for BitPim to work properly?

All I want to do is maybe move a few pictures of my own and a couple
ring tones. This is getting close to more trouble then it's worth.

I am seeing SO MUCH information on this subject I don't know just what
to read first. And more important what to trust...

    Thanks...

I believe you can go to Motorola and download the USB drivers. Maybe this
will allow MPT to recognize your phone. In the Device Manager see if you
have a Motorola Modem listed there. At Howards forums download
P2KCommander and the Motorola update software. Read there how to use them.

Not sure what you are talking about, since version ONE (not ten as you said
above, is the current version and was just released on June 12th, so I
hardly think they have had 10 new releases in 9 days!), and MPT is now
    version 4.04b

Since you are in the verizon group, I assume you have a verizon one, which
is the V3Cm (c i take as meaning cdma, not sure what it really means, but
thats easy to remember... m as manufacturer model specific, again not sure
what it really means, but easy to remember)

No reason to pick only one or the other, not to have one installed for the
other to work.. I have em BOTH on my system, (one, just bitpim on my sisters
system, and that works fine too by itself) I just find myself using bitpim
    about 99.999% of the time

Be that as it may, you probably need a firmware update.....
    at http://cavemonkey50.com/2006/04/veri...fers-on-razrs/
part of the website (from a few months ago),
Since yesterday, all Verizon Motorola RAZR users can take their phone in to
their local Verizon dealer for a free software update. While the main
purpose of this software is to fix the many bugs that have been plaguing the
device since its release, a big surprise comes with it. After the update,
hooking up your phone to your computer will allow you to use Motorola's
Phone Tools to transfer all your multimedia to and from your phone. That's
not all. OBEX, the service used to transfer data over Bluetooth, has been
added to the phone's list of Bluetooth services. This means that anyone with
a Bluetooth dongle has the ability to transfer and retrieve photos, etc.
    from their phone for free.

Will this software update mess up the phones belonging to those who have
successfully modified their phones to use MPT already? Or is it
something they wouldn't need to bother with?

You can restore the phone to original before taking it in for the
update to avoid any possible problems. I don't think there would be
any problems but who knows, maybe they check for mods?

Depends on if you are just using the phone with MPT, or actually did a seem
edit to give it new functions... Your question didn't make that clear, and
as far as I know, you do NOT have to modify the phone just to use MPT (you
may have to download drivers for it, but that's on your puter and not the
phone). If you did a seem edit it will replace the edit and you have to do
it again, however if you just use the basic phone with MPT and no seem edit,
    it will be fine..

Oddly enuf, many people seem edit the phone to gain Bluetooth OBEX
functionality... that's in the new firmware already, so If that's why you
did a seem edit, you may not even need to again, of course if you did one
for other reasons, you will have to do it again... If you get one of the
seems already premade (rather than edit it yourself, the new firmware is
usually used when editing)... Sorry, seem editing is a whole nother can of
worms, and without some sort of history, I couldn't even hazard a guess
whether or not it will work in your case
