Moto V3i lens

Hi gang!

I've got a little job to do on my wife's V3i, she managed to break the front
caller ID lens on the 'phone. So I have a new part from cnn.cn and a fairly
extensive dismantling/assembly guide from Motomodders. What I do wonder is,
is it possible to replace the lens without taking the front, metal cover
off? It looks possible and with a scalpel blade and a bit of adhesive tape
protection on the metal cover to reduce/avoid scratches.

Any thoughts, comments based on own experiences?

Thanks.

Yes, you can change the outer lens with an exacto knife or a scalpel. Get
one corner up and use the blade to lift around the perimeter. Clean up any
dust or other debris and stick the new on. THEN get a lens cover! They cost
about 5 bucks and the new ones are bubble and ripple free.

Ta Bruce I already have the lens and ignoring P+P it cost me $1.99 I bought
a few other mobile bits to reduce the effect of postage. No point getting
anything else, she'll probably brak it again

The protector adds a lot of strength and may keep it from breaking.
Replacement, as you will find, is a tedious job.

I got round to changing the lens this evening, pushed into doing it <g>, and
it took about 5 minutes. I used a scalpel blade to slowly lift the edges,
breaking the lens as I went. No problem with this as the backing kept all
the bits together. Cleaned off bits of the old adhesive, dusted off the
LCD and put the new lens on. The missus has been warned about putting in
her front, jeans pocket, which is where she broke it.

Glad to hear it went well.
