There are many websites of FREE ringtones. There are several FREE
applications for converting part of an MP3 file to a ringtone.

Another great source is usenet group:
alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.sound-effects
Whole libraries of broadcast sound effects have been posted there that
make great ringtones unless you're a Verizon customer locked out of
making your own without hacking the phone.

My "default" is a cap I made from a Family Guy episode, where Herbert
was "singing" the Nokia ringtone (even though my phone is a Samsung).
Chris: Mr. Herbert, I want you back! (as a paper subscriber)
Herbert: Oh... hey Chris! Uh... is that my phone?
Da-na, na, na
Da-na, na, na
Da-na na, na, naaaa!
Well, I better go get that!

Horse****. You can't copy MP3 files from the memory card to internal
memory. And, you can't make the MP3 files on the card into ringtones if
you can't COPY them to the phone. Besides, of course, the "APPLY AS
RINGTONE" selection on the E815s is missing on Verizon phones.
You're right! The damned phones AREN'T locked! They simply don't have
ALL THE COMMANDS in ALL THE MENUS!
Horse****...your turn.

MY (VZW branded) e815 did all of the things YOU say it can't....
So - horse**** is is... but it is certainly yours!
Same thing with the V3c and V3m that are in the household.
Everything works on them just fine...
