Motorola cell phones FAQ

Q: Why is charging of Motorola phones so slow on the travel charger?

A: The standard travel charger packaged by Motorola with many current
phones puts out insufficient power for fastest possible charging and for
continuous use while charging.

For example, charger SSW-0509 for the V551 puts out only 375 mA. The
V551 detects this as a slow charger, and thus keeps the external display
backlight off during charging. Worse, there's not enough current to
keep up with use of the phone while charging, so while the phone is use,
the battery will still be discharged even with the phone on the charger.
With a fast charger the external display backlight is on during
charging, and the phone can be used while the battery is charging.

Motorola makes fast 1500 mA chargers that are compatible with these phones:
* SPN4716* (where * might be "B" or "C"), also known as
* NNTN4250 (nominally for Nextel, but also works with non-Nextel phones).
These chargers are readily available from dealers and on eBay for under
$15 (plus shipping).

pleased he has an obviously thick hide.

But as someone who just got a Razr - preposterous given the less than 5
minutes a month I use the contraption - I was pleased to read that information
that apparently is common knowledge to everyone else.

Interestingly, my Motorola charger was stone dead out of the box.

The point is that the information is already here - for anyone who cares
to search. Instead, he tediously posts the exact same info (the limit of
his knowledge?) month after month after month after... without even
updating it to accommodate new models - of which there have been plenty
since the introduction of the seemingly now ancient original razr v3 -
or expanding his "FAQ" to more than one issue.
As for your phone, what once may have been considered "preposterous"
quickly becomes an almost no cost option due to the low cost of the
parts, high volume production and quick amortization of the the R&D
cost.

That's my biggest problem with it- the discussion of a particular
charger hardly makes a "Motorola phones FAQ." It's a rant about
something that p.o.'d Navas for some reason, and he's shouting it

Thanks. I got this when I couldn't make the picture callerID function
correctly on my previous phone, a Samsung T219. It flat out didn't work.
I've only gotten two cellular calls in my life, but I do like documented
functionality to function. I haven't yet tested this facility on the Razr,
but would be surprised if it failed.

Besides, I liked the bright orange color of this particular Razr. Guess I'm
easily amused.

Initial observations on the Razr:

a). I don't like the Phone Tools software; it just isn't
particularly user-friendly. Not worth elaborating here - it's just a personal
issue. (Is there anything better than Phone Tools?)

b). It seems very difficult on the Razr to tell it whether a new contact
should go in the phone memory or on the sim. I prefer the sim, unless I want
picture ID or custom ringtone, which I guess requires the phone memory for
most (all?) cellular phones.

c). With the outside screen a landscape configuration, and the main inside
screen a portrait orientation, it's tough to find a personal photo for
wallpaper that works nicely in both configurations

Phone tools does it's job albeit clumsily. There is Data Pilot but it's
expensive and I didn't like the interface. For just phonebook
and/backup look at www.zyb.com.
