    Make that $17 from Amazon.

Susteen's tech support finally got DataPilot working. The modem driver
in device manager needed to be changed from Motorola's to theirs. My
videos are downloading as I write this. This might have had to do with
the bad firmware version on my phone which doesn't allow text messaging
larger files either: Verizon said they can update that but it would
erase my videos. BTW this is a USB connection and I'm using a cable from
a compact HD I had which does also charge the phone (one less charger)
and I was able to just buy a download version of the software instead of
    a mail order with cable.

Be informed I'm against charging large batteries, like SELLphones use, off
the USB power supply in your computer. The quick charger in a SELLphone
draws much more power than the computer was designed to supply....which, of
course, may burn up the USB regulator.....not good.

The USB bus is current limited with no danger of damage, and the phone
is designed not to exceed the USB max in any event. Charging the phone
from a computer is actually a good way to go.

This from a person that can't figure out how to get Motorola Phone Tools
to work, and blames Motorola for his inability to follow instructions.

It works just as well, if not better, with USB.

Have to agree, it's worked perfectly for me in Windows XP, Windows XP
64 bit and Vista 32 and 64 bit.

I did have to get a later version for Vista and different drivers
(available from Motorola's site) for Vista 64.

Following step by step instructions on Mark Venture's site and/or on
Howard Forums has always resulted in my installing and connecting w/o
problems and I suspect that may work for others as well.

I should add that both my E815 and V3m required seem edits in order to
use the multimedia studio in MPT but that was very easy to do on both
    phones.

Yeah well neither is DataPilot but they did follow through nicely with
their tech support with some patience. I suspect MPT is a little better
software, I used it some years ago without issue on another phone &
DataPilot is rather awkward but then I'm not looking for much here. I
just wasn't up for some tedious hacker approach though I have done
similar, it reminded me of getting windows 3.14 running 'stable' :-)

But some people liked it too. In fact, the best reviews slightly
outnumbered the worst reviews. I've never had a problem with MPT.

This is true. But look at some of the 4 star reviews, many of which do
complain about the shortcomings. I have the same feelings as most of
those 4 star posters, but I would have given a lower rating because I
look at it from the standpoint of a less technically savvy user that
would have given up at the first problem.

For example, look at the recent MPT thread at
    "http://groups.google.com/group/alt.cellular.motorola/browse_thread/thread/c6effd10601efed7/cae43ef7e8fe5f82?hl=en&lnk=st&q=moto+phone+tools+issue#cae43ef7e8fe5f82"

He got the problem of "MPT software keeps saying initializing modem
please wait... over and over and over.. " something I've seen on several
    installations I've assisted users with.

He got the "Bangalore-Quality-Support" from one person, i.e. 'reset the
phone,' and 'remove and reinstall the software,' which reminds me of
talking to India's Earthlink support a few years ago when their Usenet
servers went down for a week--the solution is always to reset, remove,
    reinstall!

Finally he got advice from another long term user of the product that
has dealt with all the quirks. But many users would have given up long
ago, not knowing of Usenet or any other place to get help. It's totally
non-obvious to have to tell the software to not automatically detect the
handset and then have to manually select the type and model of phone.

One of the 4 star reviews also complained about Bluetooth problems, but
at least with Windows XP, I've had less problems with Bluetooth phones
