Urgent!!!Can I charge my v180 through my laptop?

I was wondering if I can charge my motorola v180 through my laptop and if I
can what do I need to have?

Yes you can use a usb cable.

Try it. It won't hurt the phone. If it doesn't work you'll need to load some
drivers into your PC. If your laptop is a MAC it'll probably work without
drivers. Here's a place to get the drivers:

Its not doing anything I installed the drivers succefully

Did you turn the phone on? It won't charge through the PC USB port
unless it's on.

Yes I did restart.Do I have to change settings in norton antivirus or
firewall?And I can only turn my phone on for like a few seconds.It gets to
the wallpaper for1 sec then turns off.Its not charged.Does it have to be
charged more to be able to start charging on the pc?

Also be aware that not all USB ports are capable of this. Must be a
USB2 port. And that is after proper drivers have been installed.
Could be all your USB ports are USB2 ports. Or not. check your system
documentation. Or just try different ports. Nothing can be harmed.

I was just assuming that your V180 works just like my V195; maybe
that's not really the case.

When I installed the Motorola USB drivers for the first time, I didn't
have to reboot my pc, although doing so certainly wouldn't hurt. And,
the anti-virus and firewall shouldn't be getting in the way.

Once the drivers are installed, my V195 will actually turn itself on
when it's plugged into the USB port. I've never tried this with a
completely dead battery, but I thought that the phone could power
itself completely from the USB port and charge itself too; maybe it
can't.

Sorry to butt in but my V3i charges happily through a USB 1.1 port on a
Windows 98SE PC, Win XP/2 USB 1.1 and via a cheap, powered USB 1.1 hub on
both platforms. I have MPT installed and also drivers for P2K; in fact I
only have P2K installed on the XP/2 box.

The one reference on howardforums.com Motorola section to charging the
V180 through the USB port says that it won't do it.

No need for USB 2.0 -- USB 1.1 will also work.
