I had the same problem. Error installing phone after a Windows XP
repair so couldn't charge my phone via USB port.

Did some searching and found this, which worked for me

My guess is that running "repair install" from the XP CD borked the
KMDF coinstaller, like many obscure actions do. Here's what I would
do:

1) Remove the driver package using Add/Remove programs control panel

2) Delete anything that's left over in C:\Program Files\Common Files
\Motorola Shared\MotPCSDrivers\...

3) Download the drivers again from Motorola but don't install them yet
(better to have the original CD, which I did)

Then....delete:

4) System32\WdfCoInstaller01005.dll

5) System32\drivers\wdf01000.sys and ...\wdfldr.sys

.....and in the registry:

6) All of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Wdf

7) All of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
\Wdf01000

Then reboot, then reinstall the driver package and choose "Clean +
Reinstall" manually from the driver installer (Start -> Programs -
> ...) (or install mobile Phone Tools from CD)

Then plug in the phone again.
