The RAZR does not, AFAIK, use "SIM" for anything. There is a slot
underneath the battery in which you can install a micro SD flash memory
card. You can use this to store just about anything (pictures, music,
recorded conversations), but the RAZR doesn't know what a "SIM" is. The
phone's "identity" is built into the phone and is not a detachable part.

I copied my contacts from my computer to the phone via the USB cable,
using Motorola Phone Tools. The version of MPT that was then being
offered for sale on Amazon DID NOT support the RAZR. I called Motorola
Tech Support and was allowed to download a version that did have RAZR
support. It was a bit of a pain but FAR less painful than having to
punch them in via the phone's keypad!

A 'CDMA' RAZR does not have a SIM slot! A GSM RAZR does. Mine, a V3i has
both a SIM slot and a micro sd slot. It seems that my UK model will only
take a 1 gig card. It is more than enough for music and pictures.
All my contacts are on the SIM so I can put it in any just about any GSM
phone and call away. The SIM, by the way, has your phone number so 'any'
phone is yours!

While that's true of CDMA models like Sprint or Verizon carry in the US, the
GSM world is very different. GSM handsets have no "identity" of their own-
they lack the programmable NAM that CDMA phones use- the SIM, or "Subscriber
Identity Module" IS the identity of a GSM phone, and can be moved from
handset to handset carrying your account and phone number with it.

With a GSM phone, there's a "copy memory" function that allows you to copy
the phonebook from SIM to phone memory or vice versa. I assume the (GSM)
RAZR is no different, but as I haven't owned a Motorola phone in many, many
moons, I can't help with the actual procedure. Even my recent higher-end
Windows Mobile phones have SIM management software, although I never use it-
I copy the contacts from my PC's Outlook contacts.

When I had a Verizon CDMA phone they would transfer the contacts at the
store (for a charge). They had a deal online if you joined their site
they would 'mangle' your contacts for free.

The OP here appears to have a GSM v3 if he has a SIM in it. Razr's are
made in several flavors to accommodate different technologies. Those
sold for GSM do indeed have a SIM. The method of copying from the SIM
to the phone book is via a menu item in the Phonebook Setup as described
in the manual. Need a manual? Download it from Motorola.com. There is
also another way. If your phone supports Syncing you can upload from the
old phone to www.zyb.com and sync to the new phone.
