I just bought an LG CU515 to replace an Motorola Razor that broke, and
I'm thinking I may have made a big mistake. I can't find any
documentation about how to sync the phone with a computer address book
or calendar, and I can't even find any user groups with more than a few
largely irrelevant posts about downloading ringtones. Is it even
possible to sync this device with a computer using either bluetooth or a
USB cable? Why isn't there anything in the manual about it? I'm
becoming rather discouraged about the quality of mobile phones in
general. I spent about $30 to buy the motorola software for my Razor,
and when the touch pad quit working after less than a month I didn't
want to get another Razor. I thought the LG might be a good
alternative, but I'm very disappointed. Is there a forum or newsgroup
that would be able to give me any useful information.
I even took a look at the AT&T user forum, and it's just awful. I think
I'll just stick this back in the box and return it, and wait until
there's a better quality product available.

Why are you posting in a Motorola newsgroup? You might get some
sympathy but you are unlikely to find any help here! Find an "LG"
newsgroup and someone may know what you are talking about.

Well, that's what I'm asking. Can't find an LG newsgroup. I thought
someone might know of one, or perhaps a more general topic group.

I can't find an LG group either. I just assumed that there would be
one. "Assume makes an ass out of you and me!" Sorry about that.

It's not only that there aren't any decent user groups, but it's nearly
impossible to get an answer to a rather simply question: can you sync
between the phone and the computer to back up and transfer contacts and
calendar/tasks. A "no" would be an aswer, but one can't even get that
out of them. The bluetooth pairs the device just fine on my MacBook,
but iSync won't recognize it because LG has chosen to use a proprietary
sync protocol. Yet they don't seem to have taken it to the next step,
and produced any proprietary sync software. The question pops un in
nearly all the LG groups I've checked, but no one ever answers the
question even in the negative.
Why would you create a proprietary protocol and then leave software
development up to third parties? it makes no sense unless there's some
serious dysfunction in the company itself. It's apparently a huge
Korean company, but has a miniscule user group base... and their tech
support doesn't seem to comprehend the simplest concepts. I don't know
whether I have a "lemon" or if all their devices work like this, and
I've given up ever finding out. I'm going to call the distributor from
whom I bought the device and return it tomorrow. Moreover, I think one
would have to be extremely naive to ever buy any of their products. The
company just seems to be a mess.
Well, it's not as though I haven't given them a chance. I've been round
and round with their tech support... and they seem to be on some other
planet. I'm reluctant to replace this with another motorola device
though, because I've had bad luck with that brand so far. Apparently
20% of the products fail prematurely. Not sure what I'll do at this
point. But I can sorta understand why we're in a recession. I wonder
if LG will ask the Korean government for a bailout package? Wouldn't
surprise me.

By the way, I suspect that they just don't have very many english
language user groups. Just doesn't make up a very big part of their
client base. Probably explains why their tech support seems clueless too.
