Re: Difference between the Motorola T720 and T730?
It appears that the only difference is firmware version and faceplates, but
1) you can have a T720 flashed to the T730 firmware version --
1.2.22.44.5P -- at any competent VZW service store;
2) the T730 faceplates will fit a T720 as long as you also but one
of the "round" outer display lenses.
Once you perform these two steps, they appear to be the same.

Doesn't the 720 use CDMA 1x and the 730 uses CDMA 1XRTT?

I asked at the store today, the differences are the face plate and the new
software, and they updated the software on my T720 to match the 730.

I wasn't sure. I thought it was a different protocol. I can't remember where I
saw some web page mentioning both. (or thought I saw it) However, I updated the
software and it is still CDMA 1x so it might be the same, or region dependant?

cdma2000 (Phone Scoop)
http://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php?gid=10
cdma2000
(1x)
"cdma2000 is a third-generation (3G) wireless technology that is evolved
from existing CDMA 2G technology. Its main features are faster data
rates, always-on data service, and improved voice network capacity (more
people can use each tower at the same time).
cdma2000 will be deployed in at least three phases. The first, 1xRTT,
supports up to 144 Kbps packet data speeds. The second release of 1x,
1xEV-DO, will support data rates up to 2.4 Mbps. The third, 1xEV-DV,
supports circuit and packet data rates up to 3-5 Mbps.
A possible fourth phase is cdma2000 3x."

Thank you. That info was helpful I must have read something and misunderstood
it with my first answer. I also found these two things that were helpful:
Short for Code-Division Multiple Access, a digital cellular technology that uses
spread-spectrum techniques. Unlike competing systems, such as GSM, that use
TDMA, CDMA does not assign a specific frequency to each user. Instead, every
channel uses the full available spectrum. Individual conversations are encoded
with a pseudo-random digital sequence.
CDMA is a military technology first used during World War II by the English
allies to foil German attempts at jamming transmissions. The allies decided to
transmit over several frequencies, instead of one, making it difficult for the
Germans to pick up the complete signal.
Because Qualcomm Inc. created communications chips for CDMA technology, it was
privy to the classified information. Once the information became public,
Qualcomm claimed patents on the technology and became the first to commercialize
it.
