    Generally speaking, yes, it does work. If you want to do it seraily,
    you'll need Motorola SmartCellect. If you don't want that and are
    happy with IrDA's performance, you won't need a special driver.

    I once used one (special driver for the phone as modem with IrDA)
    which came on the StarFish CD, but it's not necessary.

    Errmm.. AOL. I think that should work too. AOL will not insist on
    using it's own modem drivers.

    If you want to use the IrDA approach under Win2K, this tool may helkp

    Timeport L7089 - modem?

    Hi there
    I have a client who has a Motorola Timeport L7089 and has asked me
    whther it would be possible to use it to connect to the internet from
    his Toashiba Portege 3010 laptop. He uses AOl on the laptop and wnats
    to be able to attach the phone either by cable of infra-red so that it
    will act as a modem. He has sent me everything that came with the
    phone but the software provided (startfish) only provides a file sync
    facility. I presume that I would need to find a modem driver for this
    phone to get it to work. I'd appreciate any help. thanks
